No froyo in sight with noone saying anything about it, and no roms for this phone makes me want to return it before my 30 days is up, especially with the incredible hd coming out in less then a month.

Anyone else seeing that this phone might get less and less attention already?

I was thinking the same thing! Thats really disappointing. I guess everyone was scared off by bing. Stupid Microsoft!!!

devs are busy at work trying to get aosp 2.1 running on the phone. there is no news because process is slow.

once froyo comes out on the phone CM6 will be ported over, along with MIUI, and aosp 2.2 as well. 2.2 kernels and drivers are needed to work with to build a 2.2 rom.

a lot of the slow 2.1 development can be attributed to samsung's crappy support department releasing a half baked and buggy kernel.

Gotta love it! Thanks for the update! I had a feeling you had the inside track on what was going on.

not really anything super secret, follow along in the irc channel

bing didn't even phase developers :p

plus we have some pretty cool kernels now, the backlight notifications being in some of the newest ones being my favorite addition.

can't wait for some froyo though!

I may be wrong but a kernel is the underlying engine that runs on the phone, a rom is the bundle of software that we associate as android.

The 2.2 kernel source got leaked. We need a leaked 2.2 rom for the fascinate for things to get interesting. Not many devs are going to spend time making roms for 2.1 when froyo is around the corner.

Also its not tough to tweak the fascinate into a good phone. You can kill Bing and remove bloated junk from the phone once you have rooted your phone.

the entire 2.2 source was released, but it's not specifically for our phone.

hopefully the end of november date given proves to be accurate. support from samsung has never been great.

I speak with JT, Birdman and others on an almost daily basis. Dirrk really has been AWOL as of late, but I'm sure he'll be back around. There are a number of people involved in development for the Fascinate, and the support will be strong. I'm happy to try and answer any specific questions, but keep in mind the following points.

1 - The device was released less than 2 months ago. Many of us got the device on the first few days, but for those of you just catching up, you're still in the early phase of this device.

2- MAJOR players have left the Droid X and jumped to the Fascinate. The most well known probably being Birdman.

3 - You will likely not see a 2.2 ROM until after Froyo is released for the Fascinate. We tried to build 2.2 aosp based off of the Galaxy S leak, it was a nightmare. We're having enough trouble as it is with 2.1 aosp.

4 - Don't compare the Fascinate (and its development progress) to other Galaxy S devices. There are some critical differences, including internal storage and CDMA vs GSM. While devs for the Vibrant (for example) could poke around and see how things were done with the Galaxy S / Captivate stuff, we have no one to look to. Some Sprint Epic stuff is portable, but most is not (4G, keyboard, etc..). Now that US Celluar has a device, we might see something from them, but I doubt it. Their user base is so small compared to ours, but you never know.

All in all, this device is going to be big. Once the issues are ironed out, you'll see an explosion of releases. The fact that people are leaving the DX to come here should make you feel a bit better.

Would I return my device for a DInc HD? Maybe.. We'll see when the device is actually released.. We're still in rumor status. Keep in mind that it will more than likely just reset the clock back a few more months on development. ROM's just aren't going to magically be available for it either. It might come with Froyo, might not.. who knows? If you're within your 30 day window, I'd say pay attention though, it might be a good option depending on the final product.

Can't wait / a little scared to re-root once 2.2 comes out but I'm really excited for the prospect of ROMs to come our way.

Thanks to namebrandon and Adiliyo for giving some explanation to why no ROMs available. As always come into the forum to find answers and immediatley find them.

I was just looking for some ROM's for my fascinate...thanks for the explanation namebrandon...looking forward to some great stuff for my phone...btw...what are you using on yours?

JT's new clean rom and the Zinc rom are both great choices.

Where do you go to get these? I got a rom and voodoo off xda. I'm running that rom that came out a few weeks ago with the verizon rom changes and no bloatware. I'm still learning. Can you just install one rom over another? I think i used rom manager to install the last one.

if you haven't flashed any of them yet, i'd wait until tomorrow, JT is going to be adding some things from the mesmerize's system dump (debinged browser and contacts so far)

jt's rom has the new market and the froyo youtube app right now that makes it different from zinc, but they are quite similar (i think deodexed used jt's rom as a base for zinc)

i have zinc right now, but will be flashing Jt's rom either tomorrow or the day after depending on when he releases it.

if you have voodoo, you are better off disabling it before flashing any rom, just in case as voodoo is pretty finicky right now.

also, the roms are both over at xda.

if you don't have a voodoo kernel, you can flash pretty much any rom over another, just read the OP for the rom's they should give you any warnings if things aren't normal.

Yep, I don't have Voodoo. All I've done with my phone is debinged and debloated and backed up using CWM and Titanium.

I want to try a rom soon but I am currently running a voodoo kernel. I uninstalled it once but made the mistake of deleting the remove_lagfix file so I installed it again ;)

Should I disable lag_fix and then flash a rom or disable and flash a stock kernel before loading a rom?
