Those benchmarks are on par with my device, stock, clocked to 800. I under clocked my phone for the added battery life as well. 1GHZ doesn't make my RSS feeds load any faster, lol. Root, and setcup are the only tools needed to accomplish that.
Blur contacts is utter crap, no getting around that. Most gripes about the D2's performance usually include the stock home launcher and the contacts. You'll never hear me argue with anyone about that, but flashing to an entirely new ROM just because you don't like the contact list is like swatting a fly with a shotgun blast, IMO. The stock contact list does have much better connectivity with the stock Facebook application. It also adds a quick launch menu to contacts placed on the homscreen as shortcuts. That's what I would say to anyone looking to flash to one of those ROMS. Promises of improved overall performance are likely motivated by placebo. Your stock contact app and home launcher is better than Moto's? Well so is launcher pro and dialer one. 2 free apps that can be acquired straight off the market.
Until someone leaks a Gingerbread build, then I feel like the flashing ROMS on a Droid 2 adds little, if any real value at all.
