So who is running a custom rom

Those benchmarks are on par with my device, stock, clocked to 800. I under clocked my phone for the added battery life as well. 1GHZ doesn't make my RSS feeds load any faster, lol. Root, and setcup are the only tools needed to accomplish that.

Blur contacts is utter crap, no getting around that. Most gripes about the D2's performance usually include the stock home launcher and the contacts. You'll never hear me argue with anyone about that, but flashing to an entirely new ROM just because you don't like the contact list is like swatting a fly with a shotgun blast, IMO. The stock contact list does have much better connectivity with the stock Facebook application. It also adds a quick launch menu to contacts placed on the homscreen as shortcuts. That's what I would say to anyone looking to flash to one of those ROMS. Promises of improved overall performance are likely motivated by placebo. Your stock contact app and home launcher is better than Moto's? Well so is launcher pro and dialer one. 2 free apps that can be acquired straight off the market.

Until someone leaks a Gingerbread build, then I feel like the flashing ROMS on a Droid 2 adds little, if any real value at all.

one more plus to a ROM cough .. FISSION .. cough is that you can more easily adjust the clock speeds with one of our two available overclocking apps. yes setcpu will let you underclock it to 800Mhz to were me and you like it. but the stock ROM isn't as friendly when you want to re-write the scaling frequencies to have 800 Mhz be your max and retain the same number of step ups. I dont want my phone to jump up to 800Mhz to fast like it does when you just setcpu down to 800Mhz.

I understand the whole contact app issue is wish I could get rid of it but sadly it's in the rom I choose to run which by the way is traquility 3.0 runs just as stable as stock but without blur or atleast most of it seeing it still has the contact app and camera plus most of the widgets. I'm running at 1.2 with it set to underclock and undervolt at 50% as far as speed is think they would be around the same once you get rid of the memory hog apps that have been loaded on this bad boy

Apparently their is something big in the works for the Droid 1/2/x saw a shot of the droidx running 2.2.1 would be nice to see what it includes

Ok, I've installed Fission, and I must say it is very, very well done. I may have been too harsh in my earlier post-but that was mostly because of the reviews it was getting "its super fast, my phone used to be super slow" I tend to ignore comments like that, because me and hyperbole don't mix well.

Anyway, its very clean, gave me a nice 1455 quadrant score on stock, and adding back the few bright spots of MotoBlur don't seem to be too difficult. Definitely nice to welcome back the original Android contact app. Using it again(for the first time) just made me realize even more how god awful the Moto app is. It had the right ideas, it just executed them-POORLY.

and thats the whole issue with blur. it could be nice but they havent taken the time to make it great. poor programing to many colors, looks like this is still a setup for kids rather than a high end device

Coming from a OG Droid I was all amped on rooting and flashing a custom ROM, but after getting the device in my hand, all set the way I want, I have NO desire to flash any custom ROM. I really like all the Blur in the device, and find that the widgets are great replacements for many things I used to use, and most more functional.

I did use the z4root for screen shots on the go, but I may even remove that. Having a device that just works is so great!

hmm lucky you i really don't like blur. yes the contacts app has more options than stock, but its so darn slow. i have to use the quick contacts widget for people that i need to call or search its horrible in my opinion. the re-sizable widgets are a nice but the colors are off putting they just don't look pleasing to me, its kinda like a mashup of colors without a common theme. but this is all personal preference i just like the look of sense or stock. and dont get me going on that slow launcher.

I'm not a fan of the widgets either. I tried to give em a shot, but I felt like the alternatives on the market were more useful, and better looking to boot. and that contacts app...lol, I cant say enough (bad) things about that. Like how it always jumps back to the top whenever you bring up the quick launch menu. Very frustrating.

My anti ROM stance was predicated upon the fact that I didn't feel they added anything. All aspects of Motorola's software can be easily avoided. To be honest, my main motivation for flashing was because I had trouble properly converting the themes over, and it seems all anyone is interested in these days is making Fission based themes. So here I am.

welcome to the other side, where the grass is actually greener.

welcome to the other side, where the grass is actually greener.
....maybe not much greener than I thought. My phone has locked up to the point where I had to pull the battery about 4 times. That's 4 more times than I've ever had to do that in the last 3 months I've had the phone.

I'm on the verge of replacing my Droid 2 anyway, now would be as good a time than ever to SBF to stock.

I am using the Fission 2.1. So far I am loving it much more than stock motoblur.

This is my first android device, came from a BlackBerry running a beta of OS6. Needless to say it wasnt that much better than previous BB OS's.

I got my D2 last Friday 11/12 rooted Monday and flashed a Rom, Fission 2.1 on Tuesday night. For what ever reason my Cell network data connection wouldn't work. Txt's and calls did. So I restored. Undeterred I tried again Wednesday afternoon and it worked.

With out all the bloatware I feel like this is my phone. I also like the look and feel of stock android. I did however put the D2 Camera add-on in to get the full size screen pics.

The only thing I miss is the Moto RSS Widget. Is there a way to get that one back? Or something comparable, I am pretty flexible at trying out new software.

The only odd thing I've noticed is with the smiles in the texting. It previews them as the ASCII text but sends and receives them as the little android smilies. Which is weird because my gf is using her D2 stock, bought at the same time, and it previews them as the android smilies but sends and recieves them as ASCII text. *shrug*

All in all, Big THANK YOU to the group that put Fission together!

I'm getting over 1400 on a stock(rooted) rom. Its not faster, or slower than Fission, don't know what form of placebo pills people are popping that lead them to think otherwise. I lose the stock contact app, but I also gain the clipboard, battery manager, end call from notification shade, talk/decline buttons when the phone rings (I hate that slider) Blur Media Gallery with photo editor, and exchange email back.

I could always just delete the stuff I don't want using the terminal or root explorer, soooo....my final verdict on Droid 2 ROMS - not worthwhile. I only took the plunge out of curiosity, and the fact that no one seemed to care about converting themes for 2.30.2. I decided to stop being lazy and convert them myself.

If anyone wants to remove apps from their phone, and become less dependent on Moto's software WITHOUT flashing an entirely different ROM, let me know

I just loaded fusion 2.2.1 very nice got tired of bugs with the stock rom like battery manager not working or the blur media server draining my battery. Oh yeah the camera wouldn't fiction had to ditch it. I hate having those bugs with custom roms but an official release that's unacceptable

First full day running fusion and I must say im getting excellent battery life 12 hours off the charger and im still at 60%

My benchmark stock are in the 1300's, when i root with z4root, no overclock it goes up into the 1400's, then when i overclock to about 1.1 ghz i get 1600 and so on.

Yeah im getting around that at 1.2. But as of now im happy with the running fission. I don't have blur sucking up resources and killing my battery i'm finally happy with this phone

fission v2.1 is running fine for me. i don't even see an immediate need to switch up to fission v2.2.2
