So who picked up the One S today? Thoughts?

Anyone coming from the Amaze 4G? I just got mine last week and I am still in the buyers remorse period and was thinking about this phone. Only problem is I have over 8GB of music on my SD card alone. I really feel 10gb is not enough for the phone. I also keep an extra battery for the Amaze incase it dies, which I enjoy.

I just feel once the Amaze gets the offical release of ICS, the amaze is still the better phone of the two. Thats if they can fix the battery life.

I doubt it, Snapdragon S4 takes speed to a different dimension vs the Snapdragon S3 chip. Camera could be comparable but the features in Sense 4, the various settings, filters, and videoPicture mode is outstanding. Super AMOLED display also displays more vibrant colors, it doesn't matter if it isnt natural, as long as it looks good, its good. Most people can live with 10GB, non removable battery is a non issue for 99% of consumers including me.

The design of both phones are paramount too, I was deciding between Amaze 4G and Galaxy S2, Amaze 4G ultimately was too heavy and too thick and the metal pattern on the back was hideous. Galaxy S2 would have been my next phone until I realized that TouchWiz wasn't a good android overlay. Since then I have heard news about the One S coming out.

Bottom line- For the average consumer, and even for tech oriented ones, HTC One S is clearly a better device than the Amaze. Amaze won't be better with ICS, it will be equipped with sense 3.6 which keeps the black background and the starting bar stretches to the whole screen instead of being cut off at the end, plus its missing the Web OS multitasking like system. Sense 4 and ICS complements each other so well, Amaze 4g doesn't stand a chance against the HTC One S.

Contemplated it today as I went in to T-Mobile and while the thinness and good feel of the phone in the hands were the first thing I noticed, the second was that the UI is still laggy. This was their demo device that didn't even have any apps or anything installed on it and I was surprised (not too surprised since Sense has always been a hog) to see the UI lag a little when jumping between homescreens and especially when opening the app drawer. It's like the device has to think before it just responds.

Needless to say, was disappointed, but not shocked that the diet that Sense supposedly went on apparently must have been a shortlived one. It looks great (I still think Sense is the best looking of the 'skinned' versions of Android), but it's a memory and processor hog that apparently cannot be tamed.

And then there's the constant reminder of all my past HTC phones that the phone is fast for like 2 weeks and then just crumbles afterward. I think I'm going to be waiting for the Galaxy SIII this time around and skip HTC for the first time in a while.

i am waiting for my carrier to get it, how are people finding it after a few days?

As in your T-Mobile carrier? Is it just a reseller?

This phone is stupid fast.

I upgraded from a Motorola Defy so you could have given me a mytouch 3g and I would of thought the 3g was stupid fast.

I'm a shutterbug nut... and I finally have a camera on my phone that can compete (almost but close enough to overlook shortcomings) to my Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 that had just 720p 30fps HD recording.

no memory card is a non issue to me. I use my phone as a smartphone, not a dumb storage drive. Plus I know how to use a usb cable or upload to dropbox (if im really lazy).

The ONLY concern I have, is what happens when the phone freezes? Is there a way to hard reboot the phone or is this just a problem you only find on the Tmobile Motorola phones where taking your battery out and back in was a daily thing to do.

*EDIT* Oh.... ignore what people say about the sun washing out the phone's display. I had the phone set to auto brightness and had absolutely NO problems seeing the screen where as my Defy made it extremely difficult to see with the brightness up full blast.

I'm having buyer's remorse :-\

Battery life is good, screen is nice, and the UI isn't laggy. The recent apps thing is cool. 4g is awesome.

What really irks me is they keyboard and the jerky pinch to zoom behavior on the browser. I use my phone to browse the internet so much that the jerky behavior drives me nuts. Also I can't turn the sound off for my outlook calendar notifications. I think that last one is just a wieird issue in android but when I have so many meetings it quickly becomes annoying. Also the auto brightness is crazy and adjustes randomly bright to normal sometimes.

I'm thinking I'll try it out over the weekend before returning it.:'(

Well I just turned down the ONE s. I have had the Amaze for a week and it had a slight amount of screen bleed. They were going to send me another Amaze and they have no more available right now. They offered me the S2 or the ONE s to choose from without me paying more. I told the guy to call me in an hour lol. When he called back I said I am going to stick with the Amaze and to call me if it comes in stock in the next 7 days ( 20 day buyer remorse period still going on )

Man I thought hard about it.

The galaxy s 2 I didnt want because I hate how touch wiz is, and I know the camera is not up to par with the amaze. The cam is better at low light shots though with the ONE s

So now the ONE S. I came THIS close to getting it. Mind you, I still can.

Deal breaker for me was the screen. You can see the screen difference from the penile display. Its not bad by any means. It does look great, I just prefer mine side by side to it. Also, in direct sunlight, its not that good. Also, the non removable battery. I have 2 batteries for my Amaze incase one dies. I like having that option. The SD card was a big deal because I have 10 gbs of music that I like having on my phone at all times. I dont want to stream it.

Last, might sound stupid, but I love the fact that the amaze is heavier and not as thin. Makes the phone feel more sturdy and high end. I also think the battery cover is pretty sexy. I dont want a phone that looks like every other phone out there.

If you dont mind the sd card and non removable battery, great phone to have imo! Cant really go wrong. It all comes down to what you rather have. You are going to love the ONE s. Get out there and buy it

So amaze, dont ing brick on me because I just kept you.

Also, tap to zoom text is quicker. It immediately puts the text in flowed view.

I had absolutely no problems with direct sunlight. Auto brightness enabled.

Auto brightness is really quick to dim or bright the display... must be the fast s4 cpu. I mean... it is very sensitive! Good and bad thing i guess.

I didn't like the keyboard either. I downloaded the Go Keyboard from the play store and I likeit a lot more than the HTC keyboard.

I am fine with the screen not being as good as the galaxy nexus or one x. Because it's an upgrade from my nexus one and it looks awesome to me.

Yeah, I notice this too. Keep in mind though that annoyances like this on a flagship device are usually resolved with software updates within the first 6 to 9 months. I think we should commend HTC for releasing software with only minor annoyances like these, since other haven't been able to get the basic functions right before release. (Not calling anyone out, Samsung nexus) On the meantime you could just turn off auto brightness and adjust as preferred.

What are the chances of this phone getting a different type of keyboard, swype or just vanilla android?

I like a lot of things on this phone but I hate the keyboard.

This is Android, not Apple. Hoping HTC gives you another keyboard isn't required. Go to Google Play store and download another keyboard or you might be able to get a vanilla android keyboard from the forums or source. The keyboard was designed in Android to be easily replaceable.

Thanks! It's alot better now. still trying to get used to the keyboard (the space bar is way too small and close to the "." IMO).

Also, for anyone buying it, the screen protector tmo sells feels really rubbery / sticky. Waiting for ghost armor to come out with something.
