I've never owned a phone by Motorola before, but I constantly hear horrible things at best about any Moto phone. Its hard to believe considering the Droid is just an amazingly well built phone.

So what's some of the bad history behind Moto?

I've never heard anything bad that Monroe has made. I believe the razor was oof the best phones of its time, And also very popular. Probably just apple fan boys raining on out prade.

I've never had any h/w problems with moto phones. The only issue I had with them is when the battery low alert starts sounding, it never stops and there's no way to silence it other than plug it into the charger. A real pain when your phone is low when you go to bed and it starts in the middle of the night. Thank goodness they didn't do that with the Droid!

Well lets see they made a great phone in the razor but couldn't make anything worth its getting. Now they have the Droid the best phone they've made in long time

Motor had solo many. "Bad" phones after the razor this device is the first real hit after the razor.

They did have GREAT phones...then went thru a period where the quality fell off according to reports. Good to see they're back. They employ a lot of people.

My main issue with Moto phones was the software... and with this phone, we don't really have to worry about software being an issue since its pretty much the hand of almighty Google

They made a ton fo phones between the razr and the droid, and almost universally, they were awful.

Crazr? Motorkr? There was some awful stuff going on at motorola. They're back in a big way with the droid though. They've proved they can still make a great phone, and they're stock price shows that investors are believing in them again.

I owned two moto phones in my life, the Razr and the Droid, I was very happy with both of them. Obviously different, they both were perfect for the point in my life where I was at. After the Razr Moto fell off in a big way with crap devices, glad to see they are back. Of course having the backing of Big Red and The all mighty Google does help in a big way.

The all mighty Google- Credit tdawgui....nice

They used to employ a lot of people. I work with a lot of them now at a different company.

You probably got the wrong impression, or the people who told you bad about Moto had problems with them.

Yes, some Motorola phone models have had problems over the years but the majority of their phones are solid and well built. The best ones are the iDEN phones used on Nextel network for PTT. I used several of them and they were beasts. Why do you think construction industry uses them? I've seen those guys throw them across a room and they still work.

Anyway, to answer you, the Droid IS very well built. Solid construction, no cheap materials. I feel I can trust it and it's clear it will hold up for a long time.

i've always felt that moto had good build quality. i only had issues with their software being pretty crappy.

now that they don't touch the software (and neither does verizon) it's like the best of both worlds.

the droid is a TANK

Motorola always seemeed to have good phones for me. Coming from first having Nextel Motorola is all I used. Then when I switched to T-Mobile I first got the Razor which was simply a great phone. Went to the sidekick slide which I believed was made by Motorola and it was pretty good. Now have the Droid and again everything is fantastic. I have had great experience with Motorola and would trust their phones over others. The LG phones I had when I first came to Verizon were all horrible.

doesn't danger make sidekicks?

or do they only make software and source hardware?

I agree. The issues I've had in the past were software related. None of which I've seen on the Droid.

Yeah, the few that are left we need to keep our western/northwestern burbs in Chicago running! There's still that empty building up in Woodstock if anyone's interested. With a stoplight waiting to be used.

I don't think that Motorola generally made "bad" phones it's just that they were underwhelming. After the Razr the other companies started making phones that simply overshadowed the Motorola phones in styling.

Also, couldn't agree more about their software, it was atrocious at times.
