i see the temp root was out and i did that but im not understanding what unlocking the bootloader does really means. obviously you can load different boot files, does that mean the root is permanent so i dont have to reroot every time i reboot?

Re: so with htc unlocking the bootloader does that make it permar

Here's the short version.

Unlocking the bootloader means you can load custom ROMs, Recoveries, and kernels. Meaning that you are no longer tethered to what HTC handed you. Permanent root is actually achieved via the same method as temp root. However temp root will go away on reboot, permanent root stores the files in a different location and will not disappear. Same method...different file locations. Remember that there are catches to unlocking such as voiding your warranty but for most of us that's not a big concern since Verizon will take pretty much whatever you hand them as long as it says Verizon on it.

Re: so with htc unlocking the bootloader does that make it permar

so to my next question is there still is no permaroot available yet for the rezound?
i am ok with keeping sense and the like, I just need rooting for super user access (rerooting is a pain when i reboot with the temproot that i have done.)

Re: so with htc unlocking the bootloader does that make it permar

Are there any mac methods? I unlocked and ran clean script. But i wouldn't mind loading ROMs.

If you're unlocked you can get root whether your're on Windows, Mac, Linux, or whatever. For the most part you just need to edit the main script (for one click) to gain permanent root, or for installing a custom recovery (done on command line anyway).

Grab a copy of one-click root and your preferred recovery(CWM or Amon-RA) and I can help you edit the necessary files. Just msg me when you're ready, or when you have questions.

You're going to find that XDA is your friend. Grab the one-click root and you should be cool.

If you can wait, Team Cyanogenmod is coming out with a root-free tethering solution. If you're serious about rooting your phone you're going to need to unlock, then root. Steps can all be found here:

Unlock Bootloader from HTCDEV.COM (Updated) - xda-developers

It's a long thread but ask questions if you need to...

Re: so with htc unlocking the bootloader does that make it permar

New to android (coming from BB storm 2). I want to de-bloat my my phone. I dont know if I should wait until ICS drops and try then or do it now. I'm alright on a computer but I've never done anything like this with a phone. My roommate who is a IT guy with a masters degree has no clue either (he has an iPhone). I saw someone posted right above this about a one click rooting. Would that help me de-bloat my phone and will it be permanent?

If you just want to debloat and don't want to take the root plunge, grab Scott's cleantool. It gives you temporary root and dumps bloat. There's a lot of useful instructions in that thread as well. The method I prefer is to temp root, then manually disable/freeze the apps you want gone. That way you know what exactly is gone and you don't have to ask about it.

Re: so with htc unlocking the bootloader does that make it permar

do you have a link to the cleantool? also when I use his debloat if I were to reset the phone will they stay off?

The clean tool has it's own thread right in this very forum:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/re...ntool-2-1-12-11-relentless-pursuit-clean.html

When you reboot the phone the bloat stays off.

Your friend has a Masters degree in IT and an iPhone? 0.o Does he know that Android is based on linux?

I have an associates degree and I can out geek most. Guy I work with is an iDevicer as well, but once I got him to hack Honeycomb onto his wife's nook color he started showing Android some props. Try to remember that some people actually like iPhones. Can't figure out why, but that's the choice for them just like Android is for us.

Re: so with htc unlocking the bootloader does that make it permar

I'm just lost that someone with a masters doesn't know his way around a linux-based OS heh. I never even finished my associates in software engineering and it's more than simple enough for me. In the end it is a "to each there own" situation.

17 years ago when I got my "degree" Linux was a necessity for authoring C/C++ now not so much.

Try keeping stuff like this in it's own thread. I've already replied to your post.
