So you really did want a big iphone all this time

Don't say that on iMore, I proposed Apple do a budget phone and was argued into submission. They were outright hostile to my idea of getting more people on iPhones through cheaper models.

Why do you want more people on eyephones, because apple is an American company?

It seems Apple needs to loosen up on the "one phone for all" stance...The Borg approach is played out for them...

This has probably been one of my biggest beefs with Apple. They tell me what phone is best for me instead of presenting an array of choices (even if it's only 1 of 2 additional phones) and letting me decide. Excellent reference to Star Trek BTW

I don't have an iPhone, but I prefer smaller screens, so if I did use iPhones, I would have preferred they kept the size smaller.

I'm not one of these people that uses my phone as an entertainment center. I don't see the pleasure of watching movies or playing games on a tiny screen. Screens are slowly getting larger each year, but still, we're talking about an average size of 5" on these things. For entertainment purposes, that's ridiculously small and pointless. Therefore, IMO, the phone should be as small as possible, used for calls, texts, and the occasional internet search or maps.

There are two ways of looking at why Apple didn't bring out a cheap iPhone. It's probably an age old high-end product marketing dilemma (for the sake of a better sentence).

More new phone customers, and probably even more revenue by locking them into the ecosystem (you will all know that better than I).

Yet the iPhone fashionista's could leave in their droves - seeing the green logo used by all and sundry. And the far greater profit margins on mainline iPhones would suffer.

So a few Samsung fans are excited to get the iPhone. One guy at work said "it is becoming more like Android, with a Apple brain." Yeah, I chuckled the rest of the day. It is nice to see Apple get out of their comfort zone a "little." I enjoy both platforms, but I don't think there is any "real" advantage of one OS vs the other, so if I can save 1,500.00 by getting three Google phones, then I feel a little wiser, and a few dollars heavier to go burn on other great tech, or whatever.

Mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand the bigger model offers more choice to customers (but that was never really Apple's biggest advantage). On the other hand they are now a follower (saying before they disliked the large phones).

Having an S3 I do have to say this it isn't too big, but I doubt I will buy a bigger one in the near future. This one fits my pocket nicely, but unless they make larger pants and my hands grow a couple of sizes this is it for me.

Fun to see they sold it out so quickly though :-)

Isn't a budget iphone essentially a used iPhone4s? I mean they're perfectly capable aren't they?

They are still pretty expensive compared to budget android phones as they retain their value really well
