Hello, my system called soft bricked after failing to install an update OTA (Device is not rooted). I have booted the device into recovery and tried selecting apply update from sdcard but when I do, it gives the message installation aborted with no associated error messages:

Recover Information:
Android system recovery <3e>
BLU_E010Q_V13_GENERIC 30-12-2015 15:55

System Message after selecting apply update from sdcard:
Code:
1) Install sdcard/*path*/filename.zip
2) Opening update package...
3) Installation Aborted.

I have tried using a custom OS and downloaded both recovery files for my device but none seem to work:
1) recoveryTWRPv287_Energy_X-Lollippop-MT65
2)recoveryTWRPv300-BLU_Energy_X - by lope

Any tips?

Recovery files are usually pretty small, but they are also bundled with the ROM.

Ah well it didn't work same installation aborted, that was disappointing but I tried...

And yeah I found some recovery files about ~10mb

No idea why it's aborting it without any errors, it's probably the file itself. Do you have an example of recovery files? The ones I got for my device were from this site:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=49990

I haven't edited them besides changing the zip file name to 'update'

I don't have any examples. Are you reflashing this through ADB, or some other kind of program?

I tried the option [Apply update from sd card]

I don't know how to use the adb method for Blu phones

YouTube has a lot of videos on this. They will most likely be using a Nexus device, but if you can boot to the bootloader, the command and d steps should be the same.

Well after trying, this doesn't work either as it aborts immediately after transfer starts on CMD it reads as:

Code:
Total xfer: 0.00x

No idea what to do now

Have you tried in the bootloader? The commands are sometimes in those videos as well. It should be the same as a Nexus

Using fastboot oem unlock returns:

Code:
...
(bootloader) Start unlock flow

FAILED (remote: Unlock Operation is not allowed)
finished.
total time: =varies=

Do you by chance know where I can download BLU backup files so I can use that to restore the OS or should I give up at this point?

Don't think so, from seeing some videos there was supposedly an option to unlock it in developer settings but at this point in time I can't do that because my phone won't boot up, only recovery is accessible.

I have considered tossing the phone at a wall and see if that works, once had a calculator that used to mess up alot and one good smash fixed everything. Worth a shot?

Lol...that's funny. Downside is, in this case, a soft brick may as well be a hard brick. Careful not to break your wall though...lol

I'm having the same problem, and I'm just freaking out....

I tried the recovery update and didn't work...
I also wrote an email to BLU and they told me, and I quote: "A technician would be more than happy to help you", which doesn't help me at all because I don't live in the USA, so... freaking out...

Is any hope for us?

Welcome to the forums. Have you tried a reset in recovery?

If what Gold says doesn't work you could try RemixOS or PhoenixOS (For basic android stuff) though this might be quite difficult depending on your PC.

Good luck and I'm giving up on it, nothing works >.>
