Software update

ha- just did the date and time change and got prompted to download the update.

Is there anything I should do after the update - reboot, clear cache, anything like that?

Wiping cache partition, like erasat said, isn't bad practice. I haven't done anything at this point and the update has been stable.

I just did the date/time change and then re-checked ... still no joy. I wonder how long AT&T is going to wait before my device is eligible for the update. Also makes me wonder how it's even decided, since others here on AT&T are getting the update already. I would have guessed it's an all or nothing type deal, but obviously not.

just dowloaded and installed...no issues with fingerprints so far...cant really notice any changes.

Update always roll out in waves. Small updates like this one tend to roll out in bigger waves, maybe something like 50% today, and 50% Monday. Bigger full OS update tend to do a slow ramp up from something like 20% or 30% of users up to 100% over a few weeks. This way if major issues crop up the can shut off the update and only 20% or whatever percent of customers are affected. It also brings down the strain on the servers handling the update.

One thing I noticed immediately is the connection to my Wireless Charging pad doesn't work properly anymore, was working fine prior to installing this update and now it refuses to stay connected.

Turn off your phone. Hold the power button, home button and volume up button until the android robot pops up saying "installing updates". After that is done, it will take you to the section you can select to wipe the cache partition. After you clear that, select the reboot the device option.

No problems with fingerprint sensor after update here.

Just curious, has anyone tried VoLTE after the update? I would imagine just about everyone, including myself disabled this due to standby drain issues, and just wondering if the update helps.

I've had it enabled the entire time and not only does it work well in my area, but it hasn't affected my battery at all.

Got mine at 12:08 Central Time , posted something about it in the edge forums, but can't wait to sit down at my laptop and read all of the wonderful things you have discovered. Yes from what I know its only AT&T customers. I had the most upgraded specs and lollipop. but to the OP you're not alone. :-)

This update does not address the memory issue or the Application management issue that Lollipop 5.0 has. This is just a small software update to Lollipop 5.0.2. Not sure how big ATT update is, but the T-Mobile version was 177MB and released via OTA before the S6 went on sale April 10th, and Sprint has just released there's at 122MB. According to Samsung this was to address the Fingerprint scanner problems, update many of the Lollipop applications for better performance, as well as other tweaks. Samsung has released their Lollipop 5.1.1 update to all major phone carriers and have stated that they have finally fixed the memory and app management issues along with improved battery life with 5.1.1. As to when this update is released via U.S. carrier's has yet to be announced, but rumor has it Galaxy S6 owners could see it as early as June sometime.

It works perfectly in my area as well, but when I'm contacted to a WiFi network, cell standby drain was just horrendous.

Any change logs for the AT&T updates/information that they've released 5.1.1 to all major phone carriers to support this post?

I notice that on quick charge the notification area no longer has the second scroll notice of quick charge. It does in fact appear to be quick charging, but no longer scrolls a notice of it.

My fingerprint reader seems to not be working as well as before. Now there are no matches when I put my finger on it. Before I could just tap it really quickly and it would unlock the screen. But I think they fixed the night clock issue where the entire screen was all gray.

SIDE NOTE:

Anyone else dislike the fact that after you check for a software update, it forces you to wait a minimum of 24 hours before you can check again?

Hmm, wonder if that can be a carrier or model thing?
I have an SM-G920I version on StraightTalk and can check multiple times throughout the day.

This convinced me to not play ping-pong.
Ping-pong worked fine for me after the update.

pingpong does not work after att update, plus no way to update if you are rooted, you can download but you can't install the update. must revert via odin or smart switch and than update, but you can't root with pingpong after the ota
