My Verizon S5 got a notice that a software update is available (currently have version 5.0).

What is the update that is available (is it marsh mellow) and is the update okay or full of bugs?

The update is more than likely 5.1.1. As far as I know marshmallow has not yet been released for any Samsung device.

Among other things it fixed the Stagefright vulnerability.

This is not a firmware update from Verizon but merely a security patch for Android 5.0. See, here.

5.1.1 (and a Factory Reset) improved my AT&T S5. I hope your Verizon S5 gets the update soon.
