Software Updates (Unlocked Phones, S22 Ultra)

Read that this morning some of the Snapdragon models across the worlds got the March update. US devices still waiting on it as of now.

Pixel updates are out for everything except the 6 and 6 pro's. But Google always delivers these updates 1pm EST on the first Monday so that's on schedule. No word as to why the 6's were delayed yet again.

I got mine on the 4XL; nothing shown that I'm excited about other than security updates.

Have to wonder what's the deal with the delays on the 6 series.

My Pixel got updated. Around 400MB. Pretty big as far as updates go (and keep in mind it was patched to February already).

Yesterday's update on the Pixel line brings them to Android 12.1, which is now what Android L is called. That's why it was so big.

Also, there are reports of Snapdragon Galaxy 22 Ultra's losing touch screen functionality entirely after the March update. So far not every region is experiencing this, and so far only the Ultra. So Ultra holders might want to give things a few days before applying, whenever the patch is finally deployed to you.

What Pixels updated to 12.1? Mine sure did not; it remains at 12 and the Pixel 6 series did not get any updates yesterday.

So, just curious.

Also, any links to the S22U losing screen functionality?

Thanks....

One of the articles about Android 12.1:

One of the Reddit threads about the S22U losing screen functionality after March 2022 update:

https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/t8mouc/sd_varient_update_to_the_march_filmware_at_your/

Read the 12 article, but not sure it is correct. My phone was updated and does NOT show 12.1. That would make that article incorrect in noting the version level. Looks to me like google left the version at 12 and not changed it to 12.1.

Did yours update to 12.1? Would be interesting to see if others have updated to a level 12.1 or was it left at 12.

As for Samsung. It looks like might be the Exynos version and I see only one person stating the problem; haven't seen anything on other sites. If I had a S22U I would not stop due to one person having a problem. Now if many had reported it; yea that's different.

The reddit post I linked specifically says Snapdragon (SD) processor. And it appears to be only in some countries, not everyone.

My Android version is 12, however I do have the new features discussed in the article which applies to phones (such as being able to force the lock screen clock to single line only).

I didn't write the article nor the Reddit post. Just linking here so people are aware. If an update really is breaking touchscreen functionality to where you have to physically take it to a store for repairs, I'd want to know.

Did not note the SD variant. Apologize if I upset you. However, I was making a statement about what I would do if I still had the S22U. I'm a skeptic about most single or extremely low number of complaints. And again, if it was me, I would disregard it. And again, my opinion. But I guess it is good to know for some.

My comment on the version being 12 is based on your information that it would show as 12.1; that's all.

("Yesterday's update on the Pixel line brings them to Android 12.1, which is now what Android L is called. That's why it was so big.")

Made me wonder if others were actually showing 12.1. Especially, when I read that the new update brings out a few features I have already had since my update to 12.
I have read that with this new update yesterday, I am able to link that one line to my calendar. It has been linked to google calendar since day one. So there appears to be a lot of confusion out there in regard to this update.

Not sure what your are trying to prove with all your update posts. There are months where Samsung has gotten updates first. Believe me it's happened. And also Pixel 6 series didn't get the 12.1 nor the March security updates yesterday and they will get later in the month. So not all Pixels are updated. Point being sometimes updates can arrive late on any phone. Some Exynos model S22 series got March security update before Pixel.

Samsung has done great job in terms of updates for their flagship phones and generally kept pace with Pixels. Yes the March security update is still yet to arrive on US models but starting next month I believe they will settle into a rhythm. Many of us own both latest Pixels and Samsung for many years and know Samsung has done great job recently regards to updates. It's not some competition, you wouldn't go wrong with either Pixel or S22 series if one is concerned about regular updates.

I'm not trying to prove anything. I'm comparing the size of the pixel update to that of the Samsung one so people can gauge how much has changed since we don't always know everything an update contains.

I was trying to be helpful but clearly I'm not succeeding so I'll stop posting. Sorry for any upset I have caused.

Apparently India got the update this morning. There are 48 things this update fixes. Hopefully the U.S. devices get it soon.

Is it reasonable to think we will have it by the end of the week?

Unknown really. Samsung I don't believe announce when each region will start getting updates, they're just found out by users and then the tech media report on it. Hopefully it's in the coming weeks.

Samsung has been so good with software updates lately but not so much with the S22 line. Usually we get an update within a week of release, sometimes there's already an update waiting for you as you boot your device but still nothing SMH
