Solid answer on Rom Manager (Premium)

To be honest the OV doesn't benefit from the use of profiles. In most cases the OV is better on battery life just leaving it at one frequency.

No, this is wrong.
You either heard this from someone(who heard it from someone, who heard it from someone), who summarized Marzz's tests, or you yourself are doing that. Either way, it incomplete/incorrect information. Go read the entire thread, you missed a lot of important information that came out later.

What you want is this... (Froyo or GB, doesn't matter)
Set your max one or two steps down from the max your phone can run stable and your minimum should be around 400 (experiment with it though, you may be able to go lower). I use interactive since the kernel was set that way from the start. On demand will save you more, but causes lag at times as it switches, like during unlock.

If you are doing something like navigation and the phone gets hot, increase your minimum, as it is too low and when it is too low, the system reverts to maximum speed, even though it doesn't need it. Leaving it at max/max has the same effect, the phone burns itself up doing minor long term tasks like streaming or navigation. Basically streaming doesn't need 700mhz to process, but it needs to be done continuously, since the phone cannot do so at the lower speed (say 240), it runs at max speed. These phones were not designed to run long term at 800mhz and it's hard on the battery regardless. Setting a minimum of 400 allows the navigation and streaming to run as a lower processing power. You just have to find that sweet spot. For most, 400 is a good starting point.

Leslie I appreciate your replies. I cant get it toggle to 400 exactly is there a way to ender the number manually? it either wants to to 320 or 480 so I am going for 480 atm. I do use navigation a bit for my job not that often though [i reflashed the navigation], streaming radio quite, and occasional web searches and words with friends type deal.

I notice the battery still seems [while constantly using it] to be losing 10% an hour does this sound right with your rom? This was only a couple of hours test with scanner radio going [not sure if it constantly sends data or only when someone says something], some words with friends, and various internet searches, installations, etc. To be honest under constant use i am very happy with 10 hours of battery with no charge a lot better then what it was.

I haven't done any major reading over the battery just tests I personally have done and yes setting the min lower saves some battery. I never saw more than 10% gain in battery life but alot of frustrating lag which IMO outweighed the battery gain. I have never experienced much of any heat build up with the 3000mAh battery. The first OV I bought got hot from use but I returned it bc of it.

I was not offering that posts as facts u can take to the bank but experiences I have had and how I dealt with them. I thank you for pointing me to the Marzz's thread and I will read it completely and hope to learn more from it. but I was only trying to help and offer an opinion. I was only really pointing out the profiles don't benefit the OV while other phones can benefit massively from profiles. Our phone doesn't benefit from wildly changing the freqs when u turn off the screen or use wifi or connect a power cable.

I don't remember the exact frequencies is all. Just use whatever is closest.

While using it, yes, it can drop that fast depending on what you are using and screen brightness. All roms will do that, or more. For what you were doing, that was probably a pretty good drain. Yes, the scanner runs constant, so that was quite good. Regardless, if it's more than you were getting and you are happy, be happy with it.

I saw massive swings in battery life depending on those settings.
What we found in the thread was how a person uses the phone, dictates how it needs to be setup or if it will matter.

Like you, some saw no difference, others, found they benefited most from full speed based on the apps they used most. These were not common though, and I suspect with more playing they could have benefited from tuning, if only slightly. The rest found a mix like I recommended made a big difference. It's all relative yo what you run most and each person's usage pattern is different.

You are also correct that when using wifi or sleep it does nothing. Wifi uses so much power that it obscures any gains made though changing frequencies. I try to use 3g as much as possible, this is also why, while in sleepmode it switches back to 3g. When off, it just powers down to a bare minimum so the processor mostly just sleeps.

Again, it comes down to the apps you run.
MP3's run fine in the 300 range.
Nav and/or streaming needs 400 or more.

With a 3k battery, you probably have no use for tuning for battery life.

Yes my interest are more with reduced lag and keeping things smooth. I am almost always near a a wifi so I keep wifi on all the time 3g on the other hand is spotting and over used in my area. Now off to find that thread and do some reading :)

Alright I have a random question since i derailed my own thread already. Where do i go to check my usage for this cycle? [also i believe the way it is setup is there will be no cap until october then it will be 2.5 gigs, and a drop speed to 256k once you exceed it right?].
