Android Nexus 5x wifi hotspot not appearing in network lists (IOS and Windows)

Hi All, Running the latest version of Win 10 on an HP laptop. A few days ago I applied the latest Win 10 monthly patches. Now my Android hotspot wifi network is no longer appearing in my Win 10 Network list. (Android Nexus 5x running latest version of Android).

I rebooted my Android and my laptop but still not working.

Anyone else have this problem? I did some google searching and searched this forum and didn't find anything.

My friend has an iphone and their wifi hotspot network shows up fine on my Win 10 network list.

Also my Android wifi hotspot is not appearing on the network list on my friend's ipad (previously it did). Therefore I now think this is an Android Nexus 5x problem.

Also a few days ago I installed the latest Android updates. How do I get the Android wifi hotspot to show up on the network lists on ipad, iphone and windows?

Other available wifi networks are showing up fine on IOS and Windows devices I own.

Did you try changing your hotspot from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz, or vice-versa?

OMG! It worked! Thanks so much bdiddy! I changed my Android wifi settings from 5ghz to 2.4 and now my Android wifi hotspot is appearing on my Win 10 laptop available list and it's connected and I can surf the net. Way cool!

Can you say why this problem occurs in the first place? Did the problem arise due to the recent Android system update? Something else? Anyone else have this problem?

Great! I've noticed this lately as well, and I'm not quite sure why it happens. Some devices seem to prefer the 5 GHz band, and others prefer the 2.4 GHz band. I haven't kept track of it, but it might have to do with what band the hotspot was using when the other device connected to the hotspot the first time. If, for example, it was set to 5 GHz the first time, and then for some reason you switched the hotspot to 2.4 GHz, then the next time that device tries to connect to the same hotspot's SSID, it might fail since it might be regarded as a different network.

If you want to use the 5 GHz band for the hotspot, then on the device that you're using to connect, try forgetting that hotspot's SSID first. Then change the hotspot to 5 GHz, and then go through the initial connection process again.

OK, looks like wifi freqs and connectivity have various subtle issues that I wasn't aware of. Thanks for the details! The other wifi devices and networks I connect to with my laptop have had no problems. Cheers.
