Not sure if this is a bug or if it's supposed to be this way. See the video I uploaded. When I go into settings on my P6P running stock Android 12, I have to tap the text entry box again just to be able to type in a search term. Makes ZERO sense to me since tapping the first time should invoke the onscreen keyboard. It's been this way since day one so I'm thinking Google just needs to fix it.

Well, I don't see the video but it's there while I'm editing.

Anyway, just pull your notifications down twice and go into settings, then tap in the search bar at the top. At that point, the keyboard doesn't pop up until I tap in that box again, after it moves to the top of another screen.

Any other times when you have to tap twice? You don't have a screen protector on, right?

Also see if the problem happens in Safe Mode.

It's the same way for me. First tap nothing. Second tap keyboard shows up on the P6P

Definitely shouldn't be happening that way. Check it in Safe Mode. Also, do you have any Developer Options turned on? Did you change the Animation speeds at all?

OK, I guess I should have included more details (I know better!). I do have developer options turned on with all animations turned off. I do have a screen protector but this is the only place I have to tap again to get kb.

Ding, ding ding! We have a winner! If I turn on animation duration to .5x (hate having them on for any device!) it does brung up the kb on first tap.

Great! It does seem that fiddling with the animation speeds on Android 12 breaks more things -- not sure if this is only on the Pixel 6 line, or if it also happens on other Pixels.

Maybe a mod can edit the title to [SOLVED] or something similar so others know there is a solution.

Yes exactly I can confirm ...I rather have them off tbh lol

I'm not using this search too much

That does seem to be the case with A12 or A12+P6P. I've been turning off animations for over a decade on all my devices because I can't stand them but have seen it cause a few issues over the years. Knowing that, one would think I'd try to turn them on for testing purposes before posting a thread but I have CRS. ;)

I just can't do animations even this little bit that I just enabled bothers me...lol

Yep, same for me. When I went back to search in settings after enabling them, I saw the animation and cringed. I've been that way since I figured out I could stop window animations on a Windows PC a couple decades ago. Everything I use has them turned off, first thing. It's an unnecessary delayed action to the end result.

The only way I want animation is if the phone's going to spit out some cash every time I go in and out of one of the menus or apps. If it pays me cash then I'm willing to deal with the animations LMAO..
