[SOLVED/RECTIFIED] Installed leaked 2.2, but......

Re: Installed leaked 2.2, but......

Man, I'm about to ing kill somebody on ths wype. I got EVERYTHING off and it's still auto-correcting my . I'm ing pissed.

[later] No, it wasn't off. I swear I turned stuff off. And my LED ain't blinking. I changed it but then set it back to default and it still ain't workin.

One thing I hate about commercial technology: too much that no one really needs or should ever want, and the stuff that is necessary and useful is difficult. I know why some people go Linux and never even glance back.

PS: I did find that Gingerbread has a native contacts import/export feature. I forget whether Froyo did. Jeeez. So, I have had a hand in this cluster , to be sure.

I can see how you could be frustrated. The whole process is a lot to take in, especially all at once like you got yourself into. Froyo did have the contacts import/export (I first noticed it on Eclair when I was still rocking the Intercept). The notification light is a known issue on FC09, but if you install a different kernel, such as nubecoder or shadow, it'll work again. Samsung borked something up there, probably forgot that the Epic has a notification light, since the rest of the Galaxy S phones don't.
Take a deep breath, relax, read around the forum, ask questions. At the end of the day, it's just a pile is silicon and plastic. :)

Re: Installed leaked 2.2, but......

Yeah, I approached this really noobish-ly, particularly in light of having rooted and flashed Froyo, and it working fine. I still wish it were a slight easier....but then half of the things on this forum probably wouldn't exist.

God, I ing hate this version of swype. It can't ing learn . And it won't learn cuss words. What the is that? Is 4.0 better??

You can add anything you like manually in the dictionary under settings.

It's supposed to do it on the fly: I type something, I then swype it, it learns it. That's what I was shown when I first encountered swype. That's how it worked in 2.2 . Camera can't go silent - that's some gay . Other cameras don't do video also/have a bunch of other I don't in like. Other keyboards are only marginally better, but suck ass in other ways. . I realise now I was having pretty minor issues compared to this crap. I knew I should've in left it alone.....

Re: Installed leaked 2.2, but......

Tahx, sounds like there really is no pleasing you. Swipe is supposed to learn your words on the fly like you mentioned. However, unless you really are used to sliding your finger around the screen, you should give SwiftKey a try. Not only learns your words (if you type something new, you have the option to use it once, or hitting the bar again saving that word to the dictionary). It can also "read" your e-mail, text, Facebook and twitter feeds to learn your sentence structures and common phrases, as well as other words you use frequently. After a while of using it, it's almost scary how often the "next word" prediction is what I wanted to say. You may also want to go to swipes website and get the new swipe beta. It is a lot better than the swipe that came on the phone.

Re: Installed leaked 2.2, but......

Actually, I'm about as pleased as can be right now. I flashed back to Eclair (I originally had Froyo) - GO Backup and one-root-click for the win! - and now I'm back to what I'm familiar with little bull .

The video camera still sometimes doesn't record audio on the first try - but I have a silent camera, the interface is simpler, I'm not dicking with notifications for this or that that I can't turn off, and my swype works. (Incidentally, I use a lot of different vernacular - british, scottish, southern, western, profane, and my own variant - and old swype handled it pretty well.) I doubt I will change this setup for as long as I have the phone, which given that it's still in mint condition after over a year, could be forever!

I will keep your last suggestions in mind, and thank you for all your help. This matter is closed.
