Android Central Question

My phone says on receive new package found when i download and when i update apps. Then it says receiver started when the app is installed on my phone. Which wouldnt be a big issue but after that happens, my phone acts different. My keyboard will disappear while im texting or typing things on the browser. I cant record video for more than a few seconds and i cant even take pictures because the camera closes. Its like im pushing the back button but im not. Ive factory reset my s7 edge several times, ive ran it in safe mode and ive talked to samsung but all they did was clean out and reset my settings. Nothing has worked. Anyone else have this issue? I have a verizon phone on total wireless. I haven't received the oreo update yet.

Re: Why does my s7 edge say receiver started

I have never seen that on any Galaxy phone I have owned.

Re: Why does my s7 edge say receiver started

Do you have developer mode enabled? maybe it's a setting in there.

Welcome to the forums. This app can help you to identify which app is pushing that toast message.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.revanmj.toastsource

On installation you'll need to enable "Toast source detection service", just follow the instructions. I tested it on my backup phone and it worked, getting a notification for every toast I got. Tell us how it goes.

Re: Why does my s7 edge say receiver started

I've been having the same problem! I just got a new replacement for the phone I've had for a couple years, which is the LG G5. It does the exact same thing you're talking about. The only thing I can really do to fix it is restart, but that's only a temporary fix. I'm confused because my old one never did this, even though it was the same exact phone. It must be a recent thing? I downloaded the toaster app and it's been telling me what it's supposed to tell me, but what do I do with that information? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. The notifications from the toast app should tell you which app is pushing those message? Which one is it? Can you post a screenshot with the notifications?

Re: Why does my s7 edge say receiver started

I can get a notification from pretty much any app, depending on what I'm doing. Here's a screenshot of the most recent 3 notifications:

Do you mean that each time you get a different app on that notification and not only that LinkedIn service?

Re: Why does my s7 edge say receiver started

The toaster app will notify me any time I make a change in an app (like the one in the picture from my Contacts app) but the only app that pushes that "RECEIVER STARTED" message is the LinkedInService app.

What you say about the Contacts app is the normal way that app works, it will notify you of any toast message (error or not). It's an app to be used only when troubleshooting this kind of issues.

It seems that the "Receiver" error could be related to the LinkedIn app or any background process related to it. Can you disable temporarily the LinkedIn app and see if the problem persists?

It seems this problem is related to some bug on Verizon devices.

Re: Why does my s7 edge say receiver started

I don't think I even have the LinkedIn app, I definitely didn't download it and I don't see it anywhere on my home screen. I visited the play store and it asked me if I wanted to install it, so I don't think I have it.

That's very strange. It could be part of Verizon bloatware. Can you find it in settings - apps - menu - show system?

Re: Why does my s7 edge say receiver started

Aha! I found the app in question, although it was different than the actual commercial LinkedIn app. I uninstalled, as I assume was the correct move, it didn't seem like it was doing anything important on my phone. Hopefully the bug will go away now.

Thank you Javier. I downloaded the app you told me about and it showed me which app was causing the toast message to pop up on my phone. I uninstalled that app and now my phone works fine. No toast message and no random back button. Thanks again for all your help and advice. Noone has been able to help me, not even samsung!
