I have various file types, docx, ppt and pdf on a USB-C drive but only the pdfs open on the Pixel-C tablet.
Apps are installed which open the docs from other sources such as Dropbox. But navigating from the USB detection popup via its Explore option appears to start to launch the app, e.g. Word, but it then blanks out.
Opening the app first then selecting Open fails to present any view of the connected USB drive. Add a Place lists cloud services but nothing local.
How to get the apps on the Pixel-C to recognise from the USB port files that are recognised when accessed from the cloud?
Solution
In my desktop PC a pop-up message appeared when the USB drive was inserted. It offered to fix it, which was done in a jiffy. Perhaps the file indexing had to be sorted. Now all the files open in the appropriate app on the tablet.
But Windows 10, not Android on the Pixel-C, fixed it.
