Some programs installing to external SD card

Most my app downloads are installed to the internal memory, but every once in awhile an application will be installed to my external SD card. I do not notice it until i clear off the sd card and find out i have apps and app data missing. This can be a little frustrating. There is plenty of space on my internal memory at the time of download too. Is there a way to set all application downloads to be installed on the internal memory...or do i really need to check after every single install if it was installed internally or externally. It's a guessing game and shouldn't be.

Some apps install some app data on SD card. There isn't a general setting however, each app may have individual settings.
