was just looking at the black friday deals for the fold 6 in Samsungs store. Look like I can get a fold 6, 512 for a little over 1k without a trade. I am seriously considering this. Just have a couple of questions.
1. For those who got one back in July,/August, how is the screen holding out? Any bubbles?
2. I know it is risky, but I am considering bypassing the maintenance plan (or whatever it is called). Do you think it is needed? I have never purchased one for any of the phones I owned in the past.
3. I read it has terrible battery life. I will be using the phone to play audiobooks via bluetooth for at least eight hours or more at work. Is it going to be an issue?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
Hey there, been a Z Fold user since the 2, and a Note user since the 3. Been in the cellular world since '91 Motorola Ultra Classic. I give this background to show history of experience with this tech and my personal standard of required usability, simplicity, handleabiliy, and fragility tolerance.
ZF6 is my portable computer for personal & business, home & travel, presentations, business conferences, and client consultation.
Use it full time 24/7. Have it with me in all weather conditions and outdoor excursions. I'm rough on devices this small, have little patience for non-intuitive technology, and fragile build quality. Keep it in a $10 clear plastic case with adhesived Spen holder & kickstand, and a screen protector.
The only frustration I have with the Fold series:
the front screen isn't S Pen usable, and there's no built-in S pen to the chassis.
Every iteration of the Fold has been better: software integration, build quality, and physical real world usage... For Me!
To answer your questions specifically:
1. For those who got one back in July,/August, how is the screen holding out?
My screens outer/inner show no issues.
Any bubbles?
Nope
2. I know it is risky, but I am considering bypassing the maintenance plan (or whatever it is called).
Do you think it is needed? I have never purchased one for any of the phones I owned in the past.
Haven't needed warranty nor accident repair on the Fold series. Have purchased the phones directly from Samsung, so their insurance was added as it was discounted or free in the past. This year, though, I felt it exorbitant and went with carrier(VZ) insurance at half the price.
To me, insurance is "common sense" when you have such pricey devices
3. I read it has terrible battery life. I will be using the phone to play audiobooks via bluetooth for at least eight hours or more at work. Is it going to be an issue?
Believing anything one reads these days about Any Thing is risky at best, since it's all subjective reporting... IMHO!
Use discernment.
THIS (my) ZF6 has quite good battery in usage, and as stated above, it's my "workhorse". Have multiple BT connections in use: including a watch, hearing aids, etc.; i watch, read, and listen like yourself, have recorded phone calls at least 2-4hrs daily, edit small mp3&4's, and look at streaming channels in the evening. Screen on can vary 2-4hrs depending the day.
It's plugged in between 30-20% at the end of the day, letting it charge to 99% of its capacity(battery setting) overnight, using an old Samsung charger where it takes 3-4hrs to charge. All usage connection is only via data (cellular), no wifi.
Of course, one has to consider their internal settings, personal usage, apps, and connection (cellular, wifi, roaming) as all these have differing loads to the battery on any given day.
YMMV, good luck on your path, and have a Happy Giving Thanks Day no matter where you Be.
Peace
