Some very basic questions from a newbie Galaxy user:

In that case have ur contacts pop up when u open ur phone when u click the search bar the keyboard pops up with letters. I type in D and every contact that starts with a D is right there. Not sure how this isn't efficient? Is it just taping the search bar that makes it inefficient? Cause I'm not seeing a difference between this and what u would like.

Ex HTC user here with some question:

1. Where can I find the "letter pad" in the phone area? All I see is a straight number pad...is there no letter pad that I can switch to so I can search for people by name without having to go into Contacts and manually searching there?

2. Am finding the stock email to be quite bad and counterintuitive (example: a simple "mark as unread" action for an email takes 3 steps and requires multiples moves across the screen). Is the galaxy email known to be bad and if so, what app do most Samsung users use?

3. The colors in stock email and Text are pretty bad too. Any way to change this orange color?

4. Finally, why cant I set the brighteness level when its on auto brightness? I find the regular setting to be way to low so when I raise it up a bit...it eventually go backs to the very low setting.

2: I have to use the Samsung stock email for work, so I don't have a choice. However, marking an email read/unread is only two steps. In the inbox, just swipe to the right and options for Move, Snooze, Read/Unread and Reply All appear. Just tape Read/Unread and it will mark it.

Similarly, you can swipe Left to delete the email.

3: I agree with MrWinner77 - use a theme. I personally use the Material Black from Cameron Bunch, but Material Dark is great too. Check out some different themes and see what it does to the colors to find your preference. Even the ones that cost money allow you a free trial to test it out. I also use Textra for SMS and it has a boatload of customization in terms of colors, notifications, etc that blows the stock messaging app out of the water. Give it a try!
