Some videos are only shown with MX Player

I am running Android 8 on a Moto X2 Play. When I got this phone, I opted for the MX player as the previous app I was using on my old phone was lacking. The MX player was fine, but then started to act up (I love the background play option). I check the version and I was using the latest. I uninstalled the app and loaded the latest VLC player. I have not used this app in a long time and the new features looked promising. Only problem was that my videos were gone. I check the directory on the phone SD card, and yes, they were gone (or not visible). I reinstalled MX player and sure enough all the videos are back. I still can not see them using VLC.

Any ideas?

As a follow up, the videos were no visible through a file editor app (ES) either. and still do not show up. Yet in MX Player, they are there.

The file types aren't something that VLC can play (which is, itself, almost astounding), but MX can. An app will usually show only the files it can handle. For example, when you try to open a file with Microsoft Word, the default is to look for .doc or .docx files - you won't see video files.

just wanted to post the follow up in case it did not make it. Using a file manager, these videos are not located either. They only show up in the MX player folder.

Oh, also, these are .MP4's I still have them on my laptop, but they do not show up on my phone, unless played with MX Player.
