something big i overlooked! Cached maps?

I can't wait for this Thunderbolt. I've heard nothing but great things about HTC sense. The 14th cannot come any sooner...

The cached maps will be really nice as I use gps when I go back to Canada to my cottage in the summer. I added the prorated Web and Texting plan so I could use google maps last summer and I believe that is one of the features VZW is axing.

i wil be a first time android user....with google maps can u be on phone call like it shows with sense/locations?

Is the screen as pretty as the Fascinate? I LOVE my Fascinate screen but would really like to have LTE. Any word on price without an upgrade?

I am not sure what screen the Fascinate has, but the TBolt is said to have a SLCD I believe and has been praised in most of the hand on videos I've seen.

There is not definitive price announced at this time.

as stated. the screen is a SLCD which is not as nice as the SAMOLED that samsung uses. that being said its much better in sunlight as far as viewing angles. Price without upgrade should be about 599.99 but that has not been final.

If you like the fascinate screen and you are not on an upgrade you may want to wait for the samsung LTE device with same big screen and SAMOLED+ that provides much better viewing in sunlight and better resolution..

I'm new to Android and HTC - are these preloaded maps for Google Maps? How is the turn-by-turn navigation? Is it Garmin good, just passable, or somewhere in between?

I recently bought a car and skipped the nav package because I knew I'd be using my phone for it - just want to make sure that was a good idea. I use TeleNav on my Blackberry now, which is pretty good, but $10/month...

Good maps are not pre loaded you need an active cellular connection to load them but once loaded it caches something like a whole state for you so if you were to drive somewhere with no coverage navigation and rerouting continues to work. As far as usability i. Would put it in the middle definitely usable but their are much better systems that will route you around traffic etc like some garmins

I've never had much luck with traffic avoidance, it seems like once the system is update with traffic alerts, it's no longer an issue. Maybe it's a lot better than it used to be - in any case, I'm more concerned with navigation, and since it's Google I can only expect it to get better.

Not to mention you essentially have free map updates for life. That's the best draw for me.

^^ you can't be free unless they played to use maps now that would be great

That's definitely huge.

Has anyone tried using Waze? I have not had much luck with it - "social navigation." It's always trying to get me to turn onto interstates... from an underpass :p

People definitely overlook the fact that the initial cost of a GPS doesn't include map updates...

Never heard of Waze, but I've had Google Maps Nav try to take me down some weird roads before. Sometimes it confuses a bike trail (and we have a lot of them here in NY) for an actual road, although I suspect that's more along the lines of a Maps issue than anything else. Thankfully, I've reported it to Google every time, and every time they've ended up removing it as a road from maps.
