Sometimes P6 only allows option or pattern unlock, not fingerprint?

I'm sure there's a reason/rhyme, but sometimes when I got to unlock my phone the fingerprint option isn't even offered, just the unlock pin-pattern?

I haven't experienced this. I only need to use the pattern as a backup if I have an issue scanning my finger. This is how I had it setup on the pixel 5 as well with the rear sensor.

Try turning off the Power Button Instantly Locks option in Settings>Security>Screen Lock. If you manually lock the phone using the Power button, it might require you to enter your PIN/password instead of fingerprint.

Not sure if its related to this topic but every so often when attempting to fingerprint unlock the phone will tell me no because "the device was previously locked manually" therefore i am forced to enter my passcode to unlock. ??? What? I beg to differ, the phone was NOT previously locked manually why are you acting this way? Why even have Smart Lock if you are going to randomly disallow its use. OK Google, fix this crap along with your TERRIBLE fingerprint scanner.

Haven't seen that yet on P6P but P5 and P3 I would get the message Pin required for extra security a lot after using fingerprint.

It seems to be more random. But yes, 'power button instantly lock' in off. . Phone is up-to-date

Yeah, it's not after fingerprint, and it's not that the fingerprint isn't working. It's that on some instances the fingerprint isn't even an option - it goes straight to the pattern unlock screen

Yeah, I've been experiencing this too.

it might be a smart lock issue, where you have your phone unlocked by a smart lock option and after a certain time of non use it locks automatically. when this happens you'll need a pin. please star this issue so that goog developers are alerted https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/204539734
Thanks for sharing that. I have seen this happen once or twice over the weekend, and happened this morning: "device was locked manually" and forced me to enter my pattern.

Issue starred.

My z flip 3 does the same thing. Usually after sitting unused for a while. So it must be android OS related.

Since updating to 12; my 4XL has done this at least once a day. I have basically ignored it but reading this; I'm wondering is it more of a 12 issue than a Pixel 6 issue?

Yep, it is OS related... I've read about it before, it's something that's triggered by certain parameters, don't remember the exact details though. It's supposed to be a security feature, but when I read about it, it was folks not happy with it  ;)

Ironically, I just posted this question on the Google support forum. My P6P would request a pin at least once a day (no reboot, just randomly).

"Apparently", it's a known thing and is considered part of a security check. Doesn't bother me, but it definitely was noticed....
