Sometimes watch gets warm when charging

All devices can get warm when charging especially if they are charging from a low level.

In over a month of use I have never taken the watch off the charger stand , put it on and though " that's warm".

But then again I never deep discharge and never leave it on the stand charging once fully charged.

At the risk of boring people , as I have mentioned other threads . I frequently top up in short maybe daily bursts to maintain a good level of charge >90% in order not to stress the battery and hopefully extend the life of the battery.

Do you really mean you keep it above 90%? If so, that alone will stress a Li-ion battery. Short charges more often is a good practice, but should be kept between 40-75%. https://batteryuniversity.com/index.php/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

No - you are correct, maintaining high charge is not a good idea. In practice I try to keep the battery where practical between say, 50 -80%, sometimes 100%.

I the real world it seems a boost every couple of days easily achieves this.

The key factor seems to be not routinely letting the charge get too low.

I have not experienced this when using the charging cradle that came with the watch, or when using the wireless charger pad 2018 model which I got via Samsung Pay rewards points (it's basically just the right half of the wireless charger duo).

I HAVE experienced this when using the third party charging cradle that I used to use with my Gear S3, and - curiously - when I use the original Samsung charging cradle from my Gear S3. I don't know that non-OEM chargers are harmful, but it would appear that chargers intended for the Galaxy Watch have a different current rating than those used for the Gear S3, and they are not backwards compatible. Obviously I've stopped using all chargers other than the one from the Galaxy Watch box, and the charger pad, since abnormal heating can't be good for the battery. I only used these non-standard chargers a handful of times (maybe five to ten times total), and have not seen any long term degradation in my battery performance.

Is anyone's watch taking forever to charge to 100%? Mine is taking well over 3hrs from 20% and it's the same whether I use the charger that came with the 42mm or my old Gear S3 charger.

I charge my watch at the end of my day. It's generally somewhere around 50% from quite heavy use, including a workout during which I use the I'm Alive app to keep the screen on for a full hour or so. Obviously that's a battery drain but one I'm prepared to make. So 50% by the end of the day is kind of amazing really. It takes a bit more than one hour to get me to 100% after which it is quite warm, but I think that's to be expected. I lay it flat on a cool wooden table for approx one minute and then it's completely cool when I put it on my wrist.

3hrs from 20% seems slow but I've got the 46mm and I don't know how the 42mm compares I'm afraid.

That doesn't sound right at all, mine is the bluetooth 46mm and even with the original charging cradle plugged into a usb port on my computer at work it charges twice as fast as what you are describing

Ya. I thought they claimed zero to 100% in two hours.
