Android Central Question

My wife got her Xperia XZ1 Compact on 12/25/2017. We were with Consumer Cellular on the AT&T side. After much banging around with different APN settings, we finally found one that allowed her to send/receive individual texts, group texts, and photo texts over the phone network WITHOUT turning on her data. She was thrilled. We are now getting ready for a trip to Germany, and in preparation, CC has switched us to the T-Mobile side (AT&T has no international roaming?). When they switched her Xperia, she lost all those sexy texting abilities (new APN!). We can live without all that for the trip duration, but we have lost those special APN settings for CC/AT&T when we return to the U.S. Does anyone have any idea what she's going to need for APN settings when we get home?

Welcome to Android Central! If you're using the cell signal, mobile data has to be on for MMS. It may be that the phone was taking advantage of wi-fi calling on AT&T, which can work for MMS even with mobile data off. So when the phone got switched to the T-Mobile side, wi-fi calling stopped working for some reason. Is the wi-fi calling option still on?

Add an APN. Set it for what you'll need for TMobile in Germany. (Go into a TMobile shop in Germany and ask them, bitte, to set the APN up for you.)

When you get back, switch it to the AT&T APN.
