SoT - it's nearly impossible to compare

This isn't G4 specific but since I own and use a G4 daily I figured I'd post here and tie it into my G4.

SoT is very hard to compare. It is highly dependent on your settings, apps, installed, your usage, your signal, your carrier etc. One point to drive this home. If you take your G4 off the charger and watch a 4 hour video right away you will probably get 6+ hours SoT with that cycle. However, if you take it off the charger and spread usage over the next 12-16 hours your SoT will be much less, probably in the 3-4 hour range. Remember that the longer your phone is on a cycle the shorter your SoT will be since it is using some power to standby.

I know some of this sounds obvious but without listing every single detail about your usage, version, carrier, signal, apps, etc. it is nearly impossible to compare. Some people say something like "I don't know how ____ can get 6 hours SoT, but I struggle to get 3". Well the person who gets 6 probably uses it MUCH differently than the person who gets 3-4.

The first few days I had my G4 were days I didn't work so I got excellent SoT, like 5+ hours. The next week at work I got more like 3-4 hours. It was because the first few days I was using it for hours right after unplugging it from the charger. It was idling/on standby all day like when I'm at work.

Sorry if this is obvious or redundant I just wanted to post my thoughts.

I couldn't agree more. SOT comparisons among different users are not really very useful, unless you can assume a sort of average use. More important is whether the user is satisfied with the battery for his or her own use.
In my own case, I'm pleased to be able to say, I am. :)

Thanks for making this post. Everybody's situation is going to be subjective based on usage. A lot of people seem to be discouraged because their phone isn't getting the SoT that someone else is, when they are playing 3 different games and watching Netflix while the other person is just texting and browsing the web.

I think I'll turn my screen brigthness to zero, turn everything off, put it on airplane mode and turn off the option to have the screen sleep. Then I'll post my SoT of like 18 hours.

Be careful....you sometimes hear of users setting the brightness to 0%, and it gets stuck there. :)

Thanks for this. I understand everyone uses the phone differently. I didn't realize it was different for movies and games which I don't do. I mostly browse text talk and take pics. I guess I was just expecting the battery to last me 15 hours. Overall I'm happy with the phone. It's a much better improvement from my last phone that only lasted maybe 2 hours.
