Verizon Galaxy S8 Sound muted but phone still rings

My Galaxy S8+ has started ringing even when I have the ringer on vibrate or off (this has never happened before). I use the adjustment buttons at the top on the left side of the phone to adjust the volume or turn it off. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yeah in that mode just wanted eliminate any 3rd party apps causing this , sounds like might have to factory reset

Welcome to Android Central! I'm sure you checked this, but just to be sure -- it's the ringer volume slider that's down, and not the others (i.e., media, alarms, and possibly notificaitons), right? What happens if you turn all of them down?

Thats why I had you go into safe mode so we can eliminate any 3rd party apps could cause this .
Since it was same that suggests something with software glitch which might need factory reset or even possible firmware reflash.
Is this international version or US ? Which carrier u on?

Also pull your notification panel down and make sure the toggle shows mute ?

Actually if I go into the "Sounds" setting, click on "Volume" and then slide the Ringtone bar to zero, it mutes the ringer. But I want to be able to do this simply by pushing the down button on the left side of the phone (as I always have). Pretty cumbersome to have to go through the settings (and I need to mute the phone numerous times during the day). Thanks for the response.

O.K., that works and is almost as easy as using the up-and-down volume buttons on the phone. But what I've just realized is that those buttons are completely dead...I also now can't use them to adjust the volume level of the ringer. Yikes. Is there an easy alternative way to adjust the volume level, and any thoughts on why those buttons would suddenly stop working? Thanks much.

Att was one carrier didn't allow the slider to completely mute with volume buttons but try a app in galaxy Play store called Sound Assistant see if you can tweak it with that , yes notification toggle pretty quick also , your welcome!
