Sound notifications stopped on Note 8!

A few weeks ago I stopped getting sound notifications for Textra and other messaging apps on My Samsung Note 8:

-I verified that notifications are on, volume up, no selection to "show silently", etc.
-I haven't installed anything that I can think of that messed this up.
- Did not root
- I do get phone call ringtones
- I do not have special notifications for contacts.
- WhatsApp works but Textra, FB Messenger does not make sounds

I am at a loss!! When looking at problems like this the solutions are old or do not work. Sorry if this was obvious.

What are your notification settings within each app? Are they set up for vibrate? Sound? Email notification?

I have a note 8 and also use textra I'm not having any problems all work well

All of the apps are set for sound and to vibrate.

Normally I have email notifications turned off.

The sound works when in safe mode. Factory reset?? Best guess?

Before the factory reset, clear the cache and reboot. But, I agree you may need to do a reset if that fails. Make sure you get a backup of your important files and settings.

I FOUND IT!!! Went in Apps/upper right gear/Special Access/Notification access. Then it was a process of switching off the apps listed there until you find the one messing it all up!!
