Sound playback slow

I just got a brand new droid X that has the 2.2.1 with the update of 2.3.340 two days ago and I am rooted mainly for the wireless tether and future tinkering but no ROM's installed.
I just downloaded two different voice recorder apps to try them out for taking voice memos. Both of them recorded fine but both of them had very slow playback. It sounded as if my voice was altered to play super slooooooow.
I tried rebooting and then playing it back again and still the same slooooow playback.
What's the cause and fix to this???

NOTE: video playback with sound is normal speed.

I would think that this may simply a software issue... it may help if you reported the softwares names to allow some research.

the two I have tried are:
Virtual Recorder
iRecord

both offered free in market with decent reviews and ratings but both gave me same slow playback results. I didnt bother trying any other recorder afterwards
