Hi everybody !

I'm new to Android phones.

Currently I don't understand why when I adjust the sound volumes in settings they don't stay set.

If I lower the volume by pressing the buttons on the side. Then they get changed back in settings, and if I click the volume button I see the setting gear icon.

Pressing the gear icon after pressing the volume buttons has a different volumes than the settings.

Is there an app for a universal volume ?

Why won't it just save the settings ?

Thank you in advance, I appreciate any help.

In the "gear" icon, as you call it, which is the Settings as most everyone else calls it... don't worry about the terminology, but most people do call it the Settings area. Anyways, in the Settings > My device tab > Sound > Volume > there are only 4 volumes to adjust (Music, Ringtone, Notifications, and System). Depending on what app you are in or where you are on your phone the volume rockers on the outside of the phone control different volumes... sometimes it's ringtone, sometimes it the system sounds.

A great app that I have used for a long time has been AudioManager. It shows you a graphical widget that displays 6 volume controls (Alarm, Media, Ringer, Alerts, System, and Voice call), they call things just a little different in this app, but you get the idea of what it controls. I've been using the free version for years. You will get to know what volumes are used for what purposes and see that they were actually changed or not. Download it and then just put one of the two widget on one of your screens... personally, I set mine to refresh every hour to not use up much battery... and I don't think it uses much battery power anyways.
