I know sound is very subjective, but compared to my Sony z3 the sound is extremely loud. I never have to ask anyone to repeat themselves any longer.

Thanks, actually I might not have been clear, I was asking about media sound, for music, if not using ear phones.
No problem with hearing or being heard while talking on phone, on my s5.

This is my first Samsung, so I can't compare it to any others. However, I read that the single speaker on the S7E was really poor, but, as audio isn't a massive deal to me, got the phone anyway.

It's certainly no HTC boom sound, and there are plenty that get louder - even other single speakers, down or rear firing, even. But if I'm watching a YT video, or even watching a football match live for a couple of hours, it's perfectly fine and does the job Ok for me.
