Spam Filter on Main Page

Just an FYI - I got Spam Filtered trying to comment on the PSP Phone on the main AC page, and then on the Spam Appeal page it errored out. I know you are working on the Spam Filtering, just wanted to let you know about the errors.

Thanks for that - we're definitely planning on doing some further tweaking today and will have a complete overhaul of the comment system in the "coming months."

Man, it's weird writing "coming months" about our own products when we complain so much about hearing it from phone companies

I got a spam filter message on the same article, as well as one on the 8pen keyboard article a few moments ago. Damn thing is annoying.

Actually the spam filter is just way out of line.
You can trigger it by posting any links at all, even links to AC articles.
You can trigger it by capitalizing too many words.
You can trigger it by any embeded periods.

Its a major failure. Write a well reasoned reply, fix all the spelling, make it grammatically correct, logically structured, and BAM Blocked.

Meanwhile 8th grader posting in leet speek has his "lols 4 u lus3rs" post sail right in with no problem.

So you copy all the text you were trying to post, open a different web browser and post the exact same thing and it goes thru word for word.

I just had THREE posts flagged as spam and have been banned from posting on the main page thanks to this sorry excuse for a spam filter. Could you guys at least go back and unblock the posts???? This is getting really stupid. My posts were completely on-topic regarding the Fennec browser Beta 2.

This is seriously mickey mouse nonsense. This should have been fixed by now or the filter turned off until you get someone with enough technical knowledge to do it correctly!!

It?s obvious that the Admins are aware of the problem and are working on it. Before, when the filters were too low, everyone was complaining about all the SPAM in the comments. Some posts are obviously getting through and other, legitimate, posts are not.

The solution is to make the Adminis aware when the filters are too tight, in a thread like this one, so they can make further tweaks. SPAM in all forms is very tricky to filter. Too loose and it?s worthless, too tight and nothing get?s through, and the SPAMers are always changing tactics to get through.

Dude, they've been aware for some time now and it 's been doing it to me for WEEKS. This is the first time I said anything because the filter has now banned me(IP) from posting on the freaking main page. Every forum I visit has a damn spam filter and NONE of them ban me or delete my posts. It's gotten to the point of being ridiculous. Maybe they need to get Kevin or Blaize from Crackberry(or one of the other 20 forums I visit) to show them how to install and maintain a spam filter. I've told them before THEY NEED TO HIRE A TECHNICAL ENGINEER. I told them this when they CONSTANTLY had issues with their damn podcast either losing audio, or video, or both. I finally quit listening because I would show up on time to listen live and all it would be was a cluster. Now they're screwing around with the main page. It's really not acceptable when every other website manages to deal with spam without banning regular users!

And you know, I can sympathize with a few posts getting flagged, but all I did was make 3 comments about how Fennec needs to support Flash, and it gets flagged by the spam filter and I get banned??? It's flagging all kinds of normal posts and it needs to stop and stop now...this is not how you run a website. especially one that is supposed to be technical in nature in the first place.

Quit being so damn cheap and hire someone WHO KNOWS what the F they're doing in regards to website technical issues!!

Oh, and BTW, I've reported every post that the filter has blocked and they have not gone back and put one of my posts back where it belongs..that is what really pisses me off.

Reporting the problem to an Admin in a thread like this with FACTS about which post on which thread is being flagged will help solve the problem.

I am reminded of my platinum club frequent flier days when a Ranter was in front of me on line. Inevitably, I got the First-class seat/Premium room/Upgraded car because the Ranter so pissed off the very people who could help them that there was no way they were going to get help. Report the problem and be part of the solution, not part of the problem. If the Appeal page is not working for you, report the problem in a thread like this one.

Yeah and rants don't not solve the problem either. If the filter is not bothering you, great, then move along. I already told you I've reported the problem repeatedly and nothing has been resolved, so ranting may not help, but it cannot hurt. If AC chooses to not fix the issue because of my so called rant, then I think that says more about AC than myself. At any rate I don't think AC will make everyone suffer with a poor filter because of, again, as you say, my so called rant. Often times the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Maybe instead of you getting butthurt about my post maybe you need to pull your nose out of Android Central's rear. I don't understand the point of your posts beyond you don't like my posts. That is even less helpful than my posts, if I do say so myself...and I do. I've told you already, this goes beyond a couple posts being blocked....I've now had my IP banned because of the damn thing. That is no small issue and I have every reason to be pissed about it...especially given my past patience with this issue.

You've made your point loud and clear. Your posts in the forums are not being filtered and your IP has not been blocked. If it were you wouldn't be posting in this thread. Per Dieters comment above, they are continuing to make adjustments to the front page that may or may not get fixed in a time that suits your satisfaction, but it will be addressed.

Dieter and/or I will update this thread when we have additional information. Until then it's closed.
