I get my Incredible tomorrow ( woo hoo, waited a month)
And I have a question. I've read all about the battery life problems and such, and don't think it will be a huge problem for me. But I wanted to do as much as I can, I tend to forget my charger at home when I know I'm going to need it.

I read somewhere about charging/not charging the phone when you first get it but for the life of me can't remember which way they suggested to go.

So when I get the phone tomorrow do I let it die with the charge it came with? or charge it up? ( and then let it die?)

Apologies if this has been answered someplace else, I've been searching forums after forums for it.
Thanks

The very first time you get your phone insert the battery. Don't activate the phone or even turn it on. Place it on the wall charger and let it charge for at least 8 hours. Then activate it and use it till it's dead. Then continue normal usage/charge pattern.

You need to keep your chargers around with the stock battery, even under basically no usage the phone will die in about 6-8 hours. If you check email, browse a bit, send some texts, and check out a youtube video or two it will be dead in about 6 hours regardless. But everyones phones and usage patterns are different, give it about a week or so to settle in and see where you sit. Pretty much everyone has come to the concession that you will end up needing a bigger battery to make it last a good solid 10+ hours.

I'll offer my $.02, FWIW: Plug it in and turn it on; play with it as much as you want while it's plugged in. Let it charge full before unplugging it. Use it as much as you want, but don't let the battery go all the way dead if you can help it. Lithium Ion batteries do not like to be deep-cycled and love to be charged.

I agree with everything else Qazme says. The 1750 battery is doing a good job of getting me through a whole day.

Enjoy!

I'd read this thread:

Want incredible battery life? (***OFFICIAL HTC INCREDIBLE BATTERY THREAD***) - Android Forums

Lots of great info/suggestions for getting the most out of your battery.

BTW - you should charge it fully before you use it and let it go down to very low charge before charging it again (<20% probably). Not for anything to do with conditioning the battery, but more to calibrate the battery sensor on the phone. Lithium batteries hate to be discharged, but the little damage you do to it will be outweighed by being able to get a full charge out of it in the future.

Or you could do whatever you want to it and order an extended battery (and be careful with that one) - I have the 1750 too and it does a great job.

Why let it charge for 8 hours? That makes no sense. Once it reaches a full charge, it will just be sitting there for an extra 6.5 hours denying the extra charge and wasting electricity.

And just an FYI, I charged it til the green LED lit up, took it off and played with it last night. The phone has now been on for over 15 hours, used for about 4, and I still have about 20% charge left on it. And yes, GPS and WiFi are both on.

Play with it but keep it on the charger for the first charging cycle. You will want a bigger battery if you tend to forget your charger.

Hi kwarren. I'm a light user (average 20-50 texts a day, less than 20 minutes of voice calls, maybe 10 minutes of internet use), and after 24 hours, I consistently have 70% remaining on my stock battery. When I got my phone, I charged with the phone on and took it off the charger as soon as the light turned green. I've not yet fully discharged the phone and have never had a problem making it a full 24 hours. I have GPS, bluetooth, and "enable always-on" disabled.

Thanks everyone for your input!
I just really want to do right by the battery.
Should be delivered anytime now.

Thanks again!

Wow that was a long wait I would have been checking the vzw status @ least 5 times a day, thats what I did for the battery release. Have fun and enjoy.:D

I've been checking my Fedex tracking number like crazy! But all it is going to say now is on truck for delivery until its delivered. And I'm at home waiting for it. Waiting waiting waiting..

Because if you read your manual that's what it says to do. I'm not just making stuff up out of mid air. Might also explain why some people's phones do weird things with the batteries while mine don't. I agree it seems to make no sense but I'm not a battery/phone engineer either. Are you?

15 hours on the stock battery with everything turned on and 4 hours of usage makes no sense. You are the only person I've ever heard of pulling those numbers. Would be interesting to see your awake versus sleep time...and share you're special steps you've taken to achieve that. With heavy usage I can only manage to get a bit over 17 hours on a 1750 and it had 10% on it when I put it on the charger.

There are also people here talking about a 2150 doesn't get them through a full day because they are heavy users than I am. So it's more about usage versus what battery you have. If I, in my opinion, never touched my phone had nothing syncing really GPS off etc I could manage to pull about 16 hours out of the stock battery. If I used the phone like it was supposed to be used it would be dead in less than 6 hours. I would love to see screen shots of you guys and your extra ordinary battery times along with the usage stats etc.

There's the user guide for the phone. Where does it say the first charge needs to be 8 hours? I don't see it. I didn't get a physical user manual with my phone. But, the 'Tips and tricks' book that came with it also says nothing about an 8 hour charge.

I am not a battery scientist, but with Lithium Ion batteries, once they are fully charged they reject any further charging to prevent damage. So, leaving the phone on for the extra time does absolutely nothing.

As far as usage, I was downloading multiple apps, made some calls (totaled about 30 minutes), sent about 15 texts, used my apps (google goggles, compass, sky map, etc) for about 40 minutes total, played with the phone features (camera, video, mail, etc), and I don't even get great reception here (1 or 2 bars on 3G). I'd classify myself as, day to day, a light-to-medium user.

HTC Mobile Phone Support - DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC (Verizon) - Power and Battery

Straight from HTC's support website. Look at the first question.

For another perspective, I turned my phone on immediately when I got it (about 4 PM). I used for an hour or so and then plugged it in. I kept messing with it while plugged in. I've never done and of that let the battery drain down below 20% business or bump charge, or any other "trick."

With moderate usage such as light browsing during the day, a few phone calls and a number of text messages / emails, I get a full day out of the battery. By a full day I mean unplug at 6 AM, plug it back in at 9 PM.

I can actually go over 24 hours on my stock battery on moderate usage.

Once I start doing things like streaming music or podcasts over bluetooth for 2 - 3 hours, watch lots of videos, etc I need to charge more often.

If you work at a computer all day, just keep a USB charger plugged in at work and charge it as needed.

Never said you were lying. But I wouldn't call the faq page at HTC a 'manual' either.

@MA2GA28, can i trade batteries with you since you have probably the most ELITE stock battery that HTC has produced to date.

Your claims of 15 hours on and 4 hours of use with GPS and WiFi enabled are ridiculous. Screen shots/video or didn't happen!

Wow I hope to get that out of the 3500 when I get that.

I agree it's hard for me to take MA2GA28 seriously. Filled full of fail.
