Specific Ringtone for different contacts?

I searched and only came up with the option to use Handcent to get specific ringtones for different contacts. Can this be done with the native htc sms app or can i get an app that will do this?

i had one on the droid when i first tried it out that did this, but can't remember the app... and it must've been free since it wasn't in my market acct when i logged in on my new dinc.

You can have a specific RINGTONE for each contact, but I don't believe you can have a specific NOTIFICATION for contacts for sms/texts.

...I could be wrong, but I haven't found that setting.

I am using " Ringtones SMS" app for that. Still looking to find way to get txt tones per contact.

Ringo can do different notification sounds/ringtones per contact.

With Chomp, press and hold the message from contact you want to add the notification to and it gives you the option

I have tried all kinds of apps and they all came up short, just a pain in the but and a waste of time. That was the best thing about black berry.

Pretty sure I had that app on my MotoDroid too but cannot remember the name of it. I'll look around on a BB site that it was mentioned on & see if I can find the name.

I've found you can send ringtones to a specific contact using the software that came with the D'inc. Go into music - find a song -while it's playing tap MENU and then tap "set as ringtone" and follow the prompts.

My problems is sometimes the contact ringtones work, other times they default back to the Verizon default tone (even if i've chosen ANOTHER default tone.) So sometimes I know who's calling - other time not.
