Speculation on the Aug. 26 Bionic launch.

I'm thinking the text messages we all got regarding the 18th (tomorrow) for being a 'show up at THIS store and be one of the first 100 and you have a chance to win a phone).... maybe they are going to do a surprise release of the Bionic? heh. Ok, maybe not. But i'm gonna be at the store in Omaha so I can hopefully win a Charge... then sell it to buy the Bionic a week or two-ish later.

I'm buying the Bionic site unseen at this point, no more waiting for me. I'll attach my logo...

This strikes me as possible. What if the actual retail release date is September 1st, but they take D-fill preorders on the 25th/26th? That would make the rumor/speculation true, and still mean the Moto rep was correct about it "being in stores" in September.

I guess we just have to wait and see

I have never preordered a phone. What is the advantage/incentatives offered vs just going to the store on release day?

The only advantages are guaranteed availability and having it first before most people will, because pre orders are usually a week early.

By Guaranteed availability i mean some stores don't receive shipments or allow sales of phones the first day. I ran into this with the droid 3. It was out for a few days and when i went to see the phone, i was told the store manager was holding them and i had to order online if i want one.

When preordering online, if the order goes through on a Thursday lets say and you get overnight shipping (Free in most cases) the phone usually shows up by saturday, Monday latest. Depending on when it ships.

I guess am not the most in to all the release dates guy, so I wouldn't completely know. It does sound like a bad idea for the planning of those folks that need to save money to buy their next phone or that they are ready for an upgrade soon. Heck, i guess it isn't like a movie release or anything, have fun VZW.

I believe its an option. But you might have to pick it up yourself at your local fedex location.

The optimal way to go would be getting your order in early morning (2-3am) on Thursday, Have it ship later that afternoon and receive the phone Friday. But it all depends on when VZW ships it. Either way your getting it early.

Ah, thanks. Yeah, I'm just curious because if preorders go up on the 1st and it doesn't arrive by Saturday the 3rd, then it's going to be stuck in FedEx limbo until at least Tuesday the 6th since the 5th is Labor Day. But I guess that still beats getting it on Thursday the 8th.

When I ordered a Droid Charge I got 2nd day delivery and FedEx delivered it on a Saturday before 2pm, if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if there would be a difference for next day shipping.

Are you sure those skins are going to fit? The shape and phone pictured on the website are the old Bionic.

I bought Skinomi skins for my Incredible, and did not like them at all. They were mis-cut, and even the replacements were double cut.

Zagg InvisibleShields have way to much orange peel effect, in my opinion.

I settled on the wet application PhantomSkinz. I've had the same one on my phone for 16 months now and it's still good as new. It seems to have the least orange peel of all the wet application skins.

If you are looking for a dry application skin, wait until the Steinheil Crystal comes out for the bionic. They don't last as long, but they look the best.

they look like the invisibleshields... I'm debating about getting a skin, or a real case. i'd like the extra protection of the case, but would like to be able to use the dock.

All the wet application skins use almost the same material. They're all some slight variation of the 3M wet application skins they use on cars and other vehicles.

I just don't like Skinomi based on personal experience.

They have a screen protector that I did not put on. I do not use screen protectors. I love the skin and I spoke with a rep to confirm this was the xt875 Bionic and she confirmed and said that the picture online was of the old bionic. I got the email confirmation today that it shipped so I guess I will know in a couple of days and will let you guys and gals know

I'm really curious about this too! I would go as far as to state it as an explicit condition of the upgrade. As badly as I want to make the jump will not do so w/out being guaranteed on this.
