Hi! I've searched this forum and Google and can't find a solution, maybe someone can help:

I rooted my phone (Samsung Galaxy S Showcase i500) the other day and deleted a lot of the stock apk files, the ones that I thought I didn't need :).

One of them was Voice Search (and also voice commands, if that matters). Now, my speech or voice to text in my text messaging program is not working. Whenever I press the mic icon, nothing happens. Through searching I think I've determined it's because I deleted the voice search apk?

Whenever I go to the Market to download Google Voice Search, the Market says its already "installed"...but obviously its not?! I've tried downloading the file from other places but when I try to install it says "There is a problem parsing the package."

Bottom line, how do I get my speech to text back?? Thanks in advance!!!

You can just restore the nandroid backup that you created prior to removing system apps. Alternatively, you could just move the VoiceSearch.apk that you copied to your SD card just in case something like this happened and change the permissions to match the other packages in /system/app.

I'm guessing you didn't do both of these things... so consider yourself chided.

Now go to Menu button >> Manage Applications >> All tab... scroll down to Google Play Store and touch it.

Choose Clear Cache and Clear Data. If it prompts you to confirm, do it. Reboot the phone, then make sure the sync is turned on for your Google account. Open Play and try to install VoiceSearch.

Hmmm... If you are on CM or another AOSP ROM, try reflashing gApps. Actually, you could probably do this for any ROM, provided that you get the version that is compatible. Check rootswiki.com for the chart. (I'll post a direct link in the next couple of days, if I find it.)

You may as well have been speaking Mandarin Chinese to me with this :) I have no clue how to do any of this and certainly am afraid to try! I used z4root to "temporarily" root my phone to remove the pre-installed apps I didn't want which only required a few taps of the screen and nothing as involved as I've seen for other ways to "root" and remove apps. Is there an easier way to get this app back? Thanks for all the help, Chinese and otherwise :).

Here is a link to Samsung's official KIES Gingerbread upgrade program. You will need your phone (fully charged) your USB Cable and a PC. Follow the instruction carefully and hopefully it will restore you back to factory Gingerbread. Once you delete critical OS files it's best to start from scratch.
