Speech to text on Eris with 2.1 HELP

Hi everyone I downloaded the 2.1 software the other day and noticed I dont have the microphone on the keyboard for speech to text. Is there something Im missing? It is supposed to work for text messages etc?

its wasn't release in the OTA Verizon didn't make good on that.

but head over to the XDA, for a hacked versino of HTC's keyboard that includes this feature. There are some other cool tweaks.. its great been using it myself.

+1. I just installed HTC_IME for my 2.1 Eris via HTC sync. Wow.. it rocks... no need to pay for a keyboard app as long as you're savvy enough to install a non-market app. It supplies the missing microphone icon on the keyboard and works better than I expected. It took me a few extra minutes to get installed because I forgot that I had to switch the phone into "HTC Sync" mode after plugging in the USB cable (until then, HTC Sync on Windows XP didn't recognize the phone). I also had to allow "Unknown sources" in Menu/Settings/Applications.

Oh, remember this will only work on 2.1 or higher as its OS supported.

The website says to install the programs using a file manager or a command at the command line.

I don't see a file manager or command line application. Am I missing something? Do you recommend any file manager or console apps?
