so ive had this phone since december and have been very happy with it. however this past week, my phone speed has decreased quite drastically and my home screen has been freezing up and even going blank.

i went ahead and rebooted my phone and it was acting fine. then one day my home screens all blanked. all my apps and widgets were gone and then i re-added them but the next day i decided to rearrange some and found that everything had returned and were behind the current ones. so if i removed an app's shortcut, there was the original still behind it?
(ps i was running the stock home not home++ or anything)(and im not rooted)

then today my app drawer only displayed like 3 icons. Settings, skype, and i think messages. so i decided to reboot the phone again because letting it sit and work didnt help. my phone started up and then all my texts were deleted.

if anyone could shed some light on this it would greatly help!

I went into my Application Manager under Settings, and there is temp files in some applications, (cache/history on browsers, etc) It had taken me a while, but i went through all my applications, and if under the application menu for that program there was an option to "Remove history, delete cache, remove program memory" or something along those lines WITHOUT deleting the program i did. And then rebooted the device, and it was good to go. For some reason i don't know how to set it up for an auto data/cache/temp file dump, nor have i found an easier/quicker way to remove this data without having to go into each application. But its works for me so far.

Hope this helps

The front page of Android Central posted an article about clearing out your Android device a few days ago; you should look it up.

Where'd you get Skype?

yeah thanks all but i tried that. (deleting cache)

can anyone shed light on my home screen issues?

Ive noticed that same issue occasionally on my home screens (never in the app drawer like you described), sadly, I don't have any advice to suggest..

I also wish I knew what caused the home screen to randomly reset. Lately my Droid has been running a little sluggish, so I started it in recovery mode, deleted the cache. That helped a little bit. After a little longer, I just did a factory reset. Man, I love android and the over the air sync with Google. That was not as painful as I thought it would be, and allowed me a fresh start. Now, I just installed the basic apps I use most frequently, and it flies!

Did you have a task manager installed?
Mine did the same thing when I had Taskiller installed. I uninstalled it and it works fine now.

If you lose icons on your home screens, 1 of 2 things will work. Either shut of the display and come back, unlocking your phone, or 2), shut down and restart your phone. I got this issue as well, and a restart (NOT a battery pull) always solved the problem..

I haven't tried the lock/unlock screen technique, but I do know sometimes its a pain to restart the phone all over again, at least its a faster boot up time then with my old BB

Thanks all for the advice. But unfortunately:

1. I did not have a task killer installed
2. A reboot did not return my apps
3. Cycling the screen (locking/unlocking) did not return the "missing" apps.

Do a factory reset like he mentioned above, if you go to settings>privacy and check off "back up my settings" after you do the factory data reset it will automatically resync everything as long as you have your gmail accnt info, you'll just have to set up your home screens again.
