I have spell checking enabled on my S8+, and it will automatically change the spelling on presumably mis-spelled words in at least Message+ and my Google Search box. Most often, this works fine. However, it can be a big pain when I enter a custom word, like an abbreviation. The phone keeps entering the "correct" word until I re-type it 2-3 times. Is there a way to force the phone to accept my spelling on a givem word or at least turn off auto-correct while leaving spell-check on? Thanks.

You should be able to tap your word from the banner above the keyboard (where the suggestions are.) I have the opposite problem where I have to cull bad spelling.

Thanks. Yes, I can tap the mis-spelled word, itself, and it will be accepted. For example, if I type "pny," the phone will enter "pony," unless I tap on "pny." At that point, my word is accepted, but I must move manually to the end of the word, enter a space, and begin typing anew. Seems to work that way in the Google search box, too. Not great, but acceptable.

One thing that I just discovered is that your "mis-spelled" word may not appear in the banner, but the app will just enter the word it likes. So, you may have to anticipate a word that you think will be replaced.
