Spigen Thin Fit Case, How to ensure doze is working?

How can I make sure that doze is actually working? I am worried that maybe because of the case the phone might not sense that it's lying on a surface and thus not activate doze? Is there a way to check if it's working or not?

I remember the first 3 days when I bought my phone the battery could easily last for 2 days and now by the end of the day I have to charge it. I don't know if that was due to the fact that I was initially on Marshmallow 6.0 and now it's 6.0.1 that the battery is worse or is it the case preventing doze from working?
