Sports apps Push notifications dont work on data with Note 5

My sports app will only push notifications on Wi-Fi only. Once Im on data it will not notify me. I do have the apps to run in the background. My apps are checked off to "show notifications" My email will push notifications to my device without any issues on data or Wi-Fi. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! When you say that you have the apps to run in the background, do you mean that the Restrict Background Data option isn't turned on for them?

Correct B.Diddy. In Lollipop 5.1.1 if you enable (turn toggle on) background data under Settings|Data usage| Background data, this will allow those apps turned on to run in the background. Issues I'm having are with all my sports apps. Thescore, TSN, Sportsnet. They will all push fine when Im on Wi-Fi. Just not on data.

Ok, let me just clarify something: On most phones, the background data function is typically "Restrict Background Data," so if you turn that on, it will turn off the ability for that app to access data while in the background. You're describing a switch that turns on background data. Are you certain you don't have it reversed? From what I can tell, at least for the Note 4 (sorry, can't find any support page about this for the Note 5 yet), turning on the option will activate background data restriction, not allow background data: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 User Guide

EDIT: Here's the Note 5 manual: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...N920V_Galaxy-Note5_EN_UM_LL_5.1_OGE_FINAL.pdf. Pg. 141 confirms that the option is to Restrict Background Data. So if you have the option turned on, you're actually turning off background data. (Unless they changed something with 5.1.1)

Ive taken a screen shot of background data on 5.1.1. The way I understand this is that it needs to be toggled on for it to run in the background.

Ok, you're right. They just had to do things differently from almost every other device.:-\ Thanks for showing the screenshot--I had to make sure we were on the same page.

I'm afraid I don't have much else to suggest at this point. It's times like this when I wish I had the phone in my hands so I could tinker.:'(

I tried your suggestion as well and that didn't work. Frustrating how other push notifications work fine on both wifi and data yet the sports apps only pushes on Wi-Fi. Thanks for trying!
