If you use Spotify and the Android Auto App on your phone, don't update to the Spotify May 19 update from the play store. It will stop working with the Android Auto App. I also couldn't control the music or see album or song info on my '14 Ford Fusion with Sync 2 after the update. I can confirm that it was indeed the update that broke these things because I installed the previous version. The update version number you want to avoid is 8.6.28.700.

Anything older than this should be fine. If anyone wants the APK that I installed I can share it here or you can search Google for Spotify APK. The version number will have the release date next to it. Again, avoid the May 19, 2021 update. You can also check the version number that you have by long pressing on the Spotify app or widget and selecting info and scrolling all the way to the bottom.

You will also have to turn off Auto Update apps on the play store. At least until they release a new version of the app.

Good tip for anyone running into this

Thanks for the info! I would also send Spotify feedback about this ASAP -- the more feedback they get, hopefully the quicker they'll push a patch.

Thanks for the tip. Every time there's an AA update, I'm afraid to install it. It seems every release breaks something. Didn't expect it to come from an app developer.

I left them a 1 star review on the play store describing it.

That's good. I was going to suggest using a feedback option in the app's settings, but there is none, which is annoying. Developers should always give a feedback option somewhere (besides the review section in the Play Store).
