Spotify on head unit / Google maps on phone

Hi I have just purchased the Pioneer AVH-X8850BT is it possible to run Spotify through Android Auto and display on the head unit while having Google maps displayed on my phone? I can push Android Auto to the foreground and open up any other app on my phone bar Google maps, even Spotify while it is still playing through Android Auto onto my head unit.

I recently had a rental car with Android Auto, so got to mess around with it. I had Google Play Music playing and had Google Maps up on the cars display, I could switch between the displays of Google Play Music and Google Maps, and both would be running.

But as for what you are asking, regarding having Spotify displayed on the Head Unit and Google Maps displayed on the phone, I don't think so since the primary purpose of Android Auto is to get your eyes/hands off your phone.

Yeah I know Android Auto has safety feature where it will stop you from using your phone, but this is easy to by pass and gain full access of your phone by pressing the recent then home buttons. Its weird how you can run any other app but google maps. It must have something to do by Android Auto taking the use of Google Maps and not allowing the app to run twice on the phone at once maybe?
