I got this email from Sprint:

IMPORTANT ACCOUNT ALERT

You are receiving this letter as a part of our ongoing commitment to keep you informed of changes impacting your Sprint account. Our records indicate that you, or another subscriber on your account, has an Airave 1.0 device.

Effective August 1, 2013, your Airave 1.0 device will no longer be supported by Sprint or our vendor partner, Samsung.

As part of the change, Sprint will no longer bill you for service or charge you an early termination fee for this device, as it will no longer operate on the Sprint network. Any final charges will appear on your invoice within the next two billing cycles.

You do not need to return the Airave device to Sprint. Please recycle it through your local environmental program or visit sprint.com/buyback to learn more about recycling the device to promote Internet safety for children.

We apologize for any inconvenience you experience as a result of this change. If you have questions, please visit sprint.com/contactus to email or chat with a specialist, or call 855-881-5361.

Sincerely,

Sprint

Does this mean I'm SOL with my GS3?? The Airave is what kept me on sprint when I switched to get the Palm Pre. Otherwise, I would not have been able to and would have gone right back to VZW since I get no signal at home without it, and won't with my GS3 either if they kill it. WTF is that?? Anyone have any information on this or some kind of workaround?

EDIT: I read up a little more and discovered there is a newer version of the Airave device which has replaced the obsolete 1.0 version I have (which is still working so far). I'm going to call and demand the replacement with the same setup or else I'm stranded, a.k.a. leaving Sprint.

Can you put up a screen shot of your airwave beccause I have one but didnt receive this email

Talk about an odd coincidence...I am having trouble receiving calls while at home. When someone calls me, it goes right to VM. Same with my wife. And we have an airrave. We've had it for a few years. I unplugged it, but there's no way to test because without it I don't get a signal anyway. Also, if you have been paying for it (I think it was $5 a month), I would definitely call sprint, and ask them why you are paying for it. They told me over a year ago I didn't have to pay for it anymore, just because...
There's tons more people out there who don't pay for it anymore either.

I .started with an Airave 2.0 back in 2011. I had an LG. In July of 2012 I got the S3. I imediately started having issues with the Airave. After about a month and a half on the phonewith Sprint, they said "oh the s3 is not compatible with version 2.0 unit. so they sent me out the Airave 2.5 in February of this year. I have constantly been on the phone with Sprint tech support ever since, and have yet been able to get the s3 and the Airave to play nicely together. Well come to find out the Airvana Airave 2.5 is not compatible with s3. They have been giving me a $50 monthly credit on my bill since March for this inconvenience. Without the airave I have no signal at all inside of my home. They told me if at the end of this billing cycle which is July 16th, if I am still having the issue, they will let me out of my contract without and ETF. my contract expires in July of 2014.

Call Sprint Customer Service and they'll be able to explain your options. Their policy was to supply the Airave free to customers who had reception problems. Is that how you got yours? If so, they will probably send you the new model in exchange.

Sprint Air Rave 2.5 works quite well with a Samsung Galaxy S3 - I have one and it's working awesome.

I went from constantly roaming/1 bar to 4-5 bars all over my house

They gave me it for free when I called and complained, but I also pay them a lot - I have 4 phones on my account

I've read on forums if you are only a single user, they usually charge, but if you have a multi-phone account - they usually give you the Air Rave for free.

I've read in another forum that single or multi-account users got theirs for free.

I got the same, but in a letter. Told me my Airave 1.0 by Samsung would no longer be supported. I called them today and they are sending me the new Airave 2.5 made by Airvana. Free. No charge. I was paying $5 a month before. Now they say it's free. I hope it works as well as the Airave 1.0 has for me.
