Sprint - embedded SIM card again?

It annoyed me that Sprint's version of the Note 2 has an embedded SIM card, rather than a removable one. I'd be interested in learning whether that is also true of the Note 3.

The one has a removable sim, I don't believe it is usable in the US but you can unlock for oversees use

I do not believe Sprint has/or will have any phones with removable SIM cards. They use CDMA, which is very different then T-Mobile and AT&T.

You do realize that doesn't make sense. Verizon uses CDMA and LTE and all of their LTE devices use SIM's that are removable. Why Sprint didn't is a mystery to me, you and the universe, but likely they don't want you swapping them out when (or if) you travel overseas. That said, what happens if you SIM goes to crap, do they swap the phone out. That would suck.

I'm not speaking for Sprint, but I just placed my order for the VZW version and noticed this at the bottom of my email receipt:

Additional Items
Embedded SIM $0.00

Is that just for the CDMA or what? I've got a Note 2 now and it obviously has a 4G SIM so it'd be strange to have an embedded SIM.

I noticed that too on my preorder... Couldn't find anything on Sammy's site or elsewhere referencing Verizon's N3 full spec detail about an embedded sim. Major deal beaker if it does!

I have that on my order, but I do not have an LTE device so that is why for me at least. If either of you have existing LTE phones that use a mini SIM then you are getting microSIM's or if you are like me and no LTE phone then either of those are the reasons why. The whole point of samsung is swappable battery, microSD and SIM.

Embedded SIM, seriously, so what happens when the SIM craps out, I am just not buying that as a realistic answer until it arrives. Samsung has not used embedded SIM's on other Galaxy devices that I am aware of so why would they change that now? It doesn't make sense.

The Verizon embedded Sim is for CDMA only. Like previous Verizon LTE capable phones, the bote 3 will have 2 Sim slots. One that's embedded (CDMA) and one that's removable (LTE). I'm pretty certain that they have to do it that way per us law, but I don't know how Sprint got around it.

Very wrong. Sprint Galaxy S4 and HTC One both have removable SIM cards.

All phones will have removable SIM cards (in my opinion) so they can keep that global roaming tag on with the phones features. They don't want to cripple people for going overseas.

You are missing the point of the OP's question. Yes, removeable SIM cards allow international usage, and this is true of the phones you mentioned, as well as older Sprint world phones such as the Photon 4G and even Blackberry Tour (both of which I used internationally). But an embedded SIM was included in the Note 2 and while it allows international roaming via Sprint, it can't be swapped with an international provider's own SIM card for local service. We are hoping that Sprint doesn't follow the same approach for the Note 3.

You sure you couldn't call the Sprint international team to unlock the SIM for international carriers only? The S4 and HTC One are both locked just like your saying... It only allows Sprint and nothing else. Hence unlocking a phone... Which Sprint will do but ONLY for international SIM cards.. Not domestic like AT&T and T-Mobile.

Unlocking is only applicable to a removeable SIM, and Sprint will typically agree to unlock a subscriber's phone if they meet certain conditions. If the SIM is embedded and can't be physically swapped, then there is nothing to unlock. A software solution (unlocking) cannot fix a hardware design limitation (embedded SIM).

Well I'd honestly be shocked if they had embedded. Until details come out I'd assume they'd follow the open SIM policy like they did with the S4.
