Sprint forces a Mandatory update to Voicemail for Optimus s

So today I get a "Mandatory update required" notice for my voice mail. It turned out to be an update that installed - voicemail to text. I then read I had the option to try it for 30 days free, then it would cost $1.99 a month after that. I went ahead and OKd the trial period, but after receiving several voicemails and seeing that they were all jacked up I tried to remove the update. That caused all sorts of issues with my voice mail such as numerous notices, the "MANDATORY UPDATE" crap again, and now my visual voicemail wont work at all.
I got ont the support chat and was told I needed to unsubscribe. I informed them I didn't want the update on my phone and was told I had to install it and I could forgo the trial period then after 30 days uninstall the updates. I don't know about you guys...but something don't sound right to me
Sorry for the long rant, but I just needed to get that off my chest. Now if I could only get it off my phone. Any ideas out there???

The update is mandatory, no choice. Without it VVM will cease to work. Where I think you're confused, and you can verify this right in the app, is the VM to text is free for 30 days, then if you want it you need to call sprint and add the service. If you fail to call, VVM will continue to work but VM to text will not.

You can verify everything I've said above by opening the VVM app, then menu > settings > free trial. Read the message that displays.

Forgot to mention, by downloading the update your not signing up for the free trial, the update simply allows you the option to sign up for the trial. In order to enable the free trial, you'd need to open the VVM app and go into settings and sign up for it which, again, expires after 30 days and does not auto renew.

You are correct about the free trial, however it does not work very well in transcribing and asks you to rate it each time. With that said I wanted to remove the update. I went into the app and uninstalled the update and from there my whole VM system went down hill and stopped working all together. Had to reinstall the update and reboot the phone. Guess I'll just have to stick it out for another 29 days.

I didn't get this yet...but I have voicemail forwarded to Google Voice. Would this be why I haven't seen it?

Theres No way to choose if it gets sent via sms or email? Sprints website indicates you have these choices in the settings during the trial. If so pick email and block the email address the messages come from.

Also their suggestion to make transcription better is quite funny ... "please ask people to speak slowly, and in english" ... Yeah I'm all over that lol. Time to go change my message [sarcasm]

Googlel voice does the exact same thing as this $1.99 a month update will do. And Google Voice is free!

This update is oooooollllllllddddd so if you're posting this today, there's a 99% chance you have this update already or don't use sprint's VVM. If you don't accept the update, every time you open the app it will say something like "you need to update the app to retrieve your voicemails" so yes, it's mandatory. It's a voicemail app so it has nothing to do with rooting a phone.

You may be mistaking this subject with the recent OTA update for the OS which, that will make the rooting process slightly more difficult although still not "hard" imho

I have noticed my sister in law had a problem with the free trial. It didn't work worth **** she unimstalled It, and now I gotta call sprint to get them to remove the charge.
