First of all I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong forum section or if this problem has been solved in another thread.
I come here with a problem with my Galaxy S3 phone. Normally it took the phone around 2 to 3 hours to fully charge itself but now it barely charges 20% in about 2 hours.
Here's what I have done:
- Replaced the battery with my brothers S3, but the problem still persists.
- Used 3 different chargers, but the problem still persists.
- Reset the phone, still no change.
- Tried charging my own battery with my own charger on my brothers phone, and his phone charged the battery normally without any problems.
- Transferred files between my computer and the phone via a USB cable and everything worked fine. (This was done to test the functionality of the micro-USB port on my phone.)
I had nothing else left to do and I went to the local Sprint store to get my phone checked out. My phone is still under warranty and has a Total Equipment Protection. The guy there took my phone and used his charger to charge my phone. We waited 10 minutes and the phone charged only 1%. The repair guy assumed it worked fine and gave me back my phone and I couldn't persuade him that my phone charged abnormally.
I have visited these forums a lot to get help on my phone and believe it or not it has helped me a lot! But unfortunately I couldn't find a solution for this specific problem. You're assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

And no fancy tasker profile (or similar) to "do xyz when charging"?

I'd go back to the store and be ready to leave it for an hour

Call Customer Service and tell them the problem. Did the service guy ever run any checks on the phone or just use his charger? If not, make sure to tell the CS person. And make sure you tell them you have the protection plan. DO NOT SEND THEM YOUR PHONE! If they offer a replacement, tell them you want it from the dealer.

Ntchwaidumela, could you please explain what is the deal with getting it from the dealer?

Did you use the same USB cable on your phone and your brothers? Or with different chargers? Problems like this are often related to the cable.

Also, the contacts in the USB port for data transfer are different than the contacts for charging. So it is possible for data to transfer normally even if one of the charging contacts has an issue.

Im having same trouble I just bought galaxy s3 in four hours it inly charged 15 % and the battery inky seens to last 1 - 2 hour's shoukd I just get another battery or is there anything I can do for quick fix

beetle, did you buy it new? If so, you should just take it back and let the store figure it out.

If you bought it used, have you tried any of the suggestions in the OP? Try a different cable, a different charger (or use a USB port on a PC). If neither of those work, visit a Sprint store and see if they have any spare S3 batteries lying around. It's not unusual for stores to have a bunch of used batteries on hand.

The most recent update to the galaxy s3 sucks in general. I can only speak for verizon users as that's where I got my phone (and didn't get the update until recently) but the phones from any company don't seem to be taking it well. I heard that yhe main problem with the charging is that the phone doesn't recognize the ac charger and thinks that its a usb. Getting a one piece charger tenda to solve the problem of charging but doesn't help with the faster discharging. Hopefully it will be remedied soon.

Yes, Verizon seems to have screwed the pooch on their update to 4.1.2. The Sprint version seems pretty bug free, and most users seem very happy with it. But I really don't believe charging issues are related to the OS version. Almost everyone who reports charging issues has been able to trace it to a hardware issue. Most common are bad USB cables, followed by bad chargers, and broken USB ports on the phone. Less common are bad batteries, but they happen.

Let's say Ferkhat =A and his brother = B...

Normally: Battery A + USB cable A + charge adapter A = 2 to 3 hours to fully charge itself
Now: Battery A + USB cable A + charge adapter A = barely charges 20% in about 2 hours.

Tried = Battery B + USB cable A + charge adapter A + phone A = problem still persists.
Tried = Battery A + USB cable Z(1-3) + charge adapter Z(1-3) + phone A= problem still persists.
Tried = Battery A + USB cable A + charge adapter A + phone B = charged the battery normally without any problems.

And Sprint is C
Tried = Battery A + USB cable C + charge adapter C + phone A = waited 10 minutes and the phone charged only 1%.

======

From the info given (and assumptions to equal "A") It looks like the problem is phone A, and most likely the micro-USB port. Given the number of times we all plug and unplug cables into this port, really, it's not a stretch to believe that this is where a lot of problems can happen. I initially thought the cable/charger was the problem (as was noted above by others), but "Tried = Battery A + USB cable A + charge adapter A + phone B = charged the battery normally without any problems" is really all we need to know.

cheers/dom

I had a similar problem and read on an other forum (blasphemy I know!) that the does funny things like not charge properly when it thinks that there is a weak connection between the charger and the phone.

Having seen this I figured there might be some dirt in the input, so I went at it with a clean toothbrush and it seemed to work.

I'll let you know of any updates.

(the toothbrush trick also worked for a problem I was having with my microphone)

I've a friend that had the same issue
About two days ago
Mine is doing the same as of now
Phone has been on the charger since yesterday are 10:00pm
It's now 9:00am and my phone is barely charged sitting at 30%
I've read some where that someone called CS
And they gave them instructions on how to reboot their phone
And it started charging efficiently again
I'm going to try that and see what happens...
Wish me luck
Any other suggestions would be great as Well

Have you tried using a different USB cable or different charger? A bad USB cable is by far the most common cause of charging problems.

Hi I have the same problem .it takes forever to charge . So I use a volt metrr to test power going to the battery with the charger attach but only 1volt was shown.But with the same charger I use on my old phone I tested 4 volts so how can't I fix it? Thanks

Hi, as I am reading the post here, my phone is charging super slow like you have mentioned. I have 4 chargers and there is a generic charger where the point has bent and that is the only one that charges my phone fast. it sucks, because it takes such a long time to charge with the original and few fakes, but in an hr the battery is dead. sprint samsung galaxy s3 battery life is terrible

If the battery is dead in an hour there is something wrong with your phone, or the software you're running. That is not normal. There are many posts on these forums about battery life problems that should give you things to look for.

Use the charger from the old phone. Any micro USB charge will work.

Agreed... My phone was charging very slowly, sometimes not at all! That was with letting it go while I slept... Turned out to be the micro usb charger. Picked one up at best buy and used it with my stock wall adapter and all is well. I know for sure it was because I picked the phone up and it yanked the cord out on accident. Thankfully the damage was to the wire not the phone!
