I am running stock and I installed the upgrade. Do not see many differences so far.

If you don't care about loading a complete stock image (with Knox bootloader component; unrooted; no custom Recovery) then just follow the link in post #10.Guess it Knox bootloader doesn't matter much to me as I run stock root anyway.

You can root the stock firmware using Saferoot.Well...I do want to keep root (or be able to have it).
I am far from an expert in these matters (you should really rely on the folks over on XDA) but my understanding is, once you load the stock 4.3 or greater firmware with the Knox component, you can kiss custom Recovery software goodbye. There's something called Safestrap that provides a custom Recovery capability but it's very limited. But as for the bootloader...well, I really don't care too much. If I lose CWM recovery, I'd like to at least be able to reload it after everything is up and running.
Well...I do want to keep root (or be able to have it). I have CWM (latest) recovery and like that for flashing certain things that come up from time to time. But as for the bootloader...well, I really don't care too much. If I lose CWM recovery, I'd like to at least be able to reload it after everything is up and running.

So you should probably just search for a pre-rooted 4.4.x firmware that has all Knox components stripped out. Just my $0.02.
Everyone please post their performance experience with 4.4 on their device. I'm curious how the battery is being managed the most!
