when the sprint hero came out there was a messaging bug keeping the dialer awake and keeping the phone from being able to sleep.. does anyone out there know if this issue has been resolved?????????

Then it should be fixed.There three things in 2.1 that i have noticed in my development/hacking that do cause problems GSD,twitter,maybe sprinttv.
gsd will keep your phone awake even tho the screen is off,twitter eats cpu and it starting to look like tv might be eating cpu.I have took gsd and twitter out of my custom roms because of it.

It won't show these in battery usage.
Gsd is a test program that htc put in.If you use twitter,try this. Get the official twitter app from market and sign out of peep.As for tv i still need to test it more to see if it is a real issue,then try to solve from there.

I recommend not using the account sync for Twitter or Facebook. Once I stopped doing that I saw a big boost in battery life.
