AC Question

I get a notification that Smith is disabled click here to open, what should I do?

Welcome to Android Central! Smith.apk appears to be some system app installed by HTC that tracks data usage (see this thread: Smith apk. info and everything else related … | EVO 3D | XDA Forum). If you've disabled it, you may need to re-enable it to prevent glitches. Go to Settings>Apps>Disabled, or Settings>Apps>All (and scroll all the way to the bottom), select Smith (if it's there), and tap Enable.

I just froze it using Titanium Backup. No problems and my 4G connection seems even speedier. I read that the Smith package is a logger and also serves to throttle bandwidth in highly congested areas.

I just got off a long and completely fruitless chat with an HTC tech rep. They are aware that there is a problem and are working on a fix but couldn't give me an OTA date for the fix.
What is truly annoying is HTC knew that smith.apk was due to expire on July 28th 2014 and they did nothing about it. (The rep actually confirmed this also)
Very frustrating, I just want my phone to go back to working correctly.
Guess I'll just keep checking for updates.
