Sprint HTC One - sleep mode vs data connection under power settings?

I heard if sleep mode is enabled that it will override the data connection option under power saver. Also could anyone tell me what option would save me more battery if the above statement is true?

Yes this is true but there is also user customizable hours to setup your sleep mode to make it more effective.
